Look at the fuel system on a Cummins-powered Ram, an older Duramax or a 6.7 Power Stroke and you will often find Bosch parts: the high-pressure pump, the injectors, the rail and the sensors that control them. RDI Power is a Bosch dealer in Brooksville, and our Bosch work is diesel work: sourcing, testing and installing Bosch diesel fuel system components on the trucks we repair.
Bosch diesel parts on trucks we work on
| Engine | Bosch components |
|---|---|
| 5.9 Cummins 12-valve, 1994 to 1998 | P7100 inline injection pump |
| 5.9 Cummins 24-valve, 1998.5 to 2002 | VP44 rotary injection pump |
| 5.9 common rail and earlier 6.7 Cummins | CP3 high-pressure pump and common rail injectors |
| Duramax LB7 through LMM | CP3 high-pressure pump and injectors |
| Duramax LML | CP4.2 high-pressure pump and piezo injectors |
| 6.7 Power Stroke | CP4.2 high-pressure pump (2011 to 2019) and piezo injectors |
Bosch also makes glow plugs for many diesel engines; see glow plug repair.
The CP4.2 problem, handled correctly
The Bosch CP4.2 pump used on 2011 to 2019 6.7 Power Strokes and LML Duramax engines has a reputation for failing, sometimes by shedding metal into the fuel. That debris travels downstream through the rail and lines into the injectors. Replacing only the pump leaves the contamination in place to destroy the replacement pump.
A proper CP4.2 repair inspects and cleans or replaces everything the debris reached: the pump, the injectors, the high-pressure lines and rails, the fuel filters, and the tank and supply lines where needed. It costs more than a pump alone, and it is the repair that lasts. Our Power Stroke and Duramax pages cover those engines in more detail.
New or remanufactured
Bosch components are available new and as remanufactured units rebuilt and tested to specification. Remanufactured pumps and injectors are often the practical choice on older trucks. On a fresh engine, or after a contamination failure, new parts may be the better call. We lay out the options and explain the tradeoffs.
Why parts quality matters in fuel systems
Injection systems run at pressures where small differences in machining and calibration change how fuel sprays. An injector that flows differently from its neighbors causes uneven cylinders, smoke and wear. Fitting parts built to the engine’s original specification, and testing the system afterward, keeps all cylinders working together.
How we use Bosch parts in a repair
- Diagnose the fuel system first: supply pressure, rail pressure, injector balance and return flow.
- Identify the failed components and the reason they failed.
- Source the correct Bosch component for the engine.
- Install it, program injector trim codes where the engine requires them, and verify the repair with live data and a road test.
Our full process is on the fuel injection page. For Ford and Navistar HEUI engines, we also work with Alliant Power components.
If your diesel has a fuel system problem, bring it in for testing. We will tell you what failed, why, and which Bosch part fixes it.
