Sarasota County runs down the Gulf coast from the Manatee line through Sarasota and Venice, with I-75 a few miles inland and US 41 along the shore. Its freight base is light, but it still has a working short-line railroad, a growing airport, manufacturers, and construction traffic tied to its master-planned communities. RDI Power does not have a shop or office in Sarasota County. Technicians come out from our Brooksville shop, and because the county is near the far edge of our range, we schedule the work with you rather than promise arrival times.
I-75, US 41 and the Sarasota County connectors
I-75 is the area’s only freeway, running about 5 miles east of central Sarasota. FDOT’s 2025 counts put close to 16,800 trucks a day on it near Fruitville and about 12,400 near Laurel and Venice. US 41, the Tamiami Trail, is the coastal route through both cities, with a bypass looping around Venice Island. US 301 follows Washington Boulevard north out of Sarasota and parallels US 41 until the two merge in Manatee County.
The east-west roads are what connect the coast to the interstate. Fruitville Road (SR 780) links US 41, US 301 and I-75. Laurel Road (County Road 762) does the same in north Venice, and SR 681, the Venice Connector, was the southern end of I-75 in the early 1980s. SR 72 comes 44 miles west from near Arcadia to south Sarasota, ending by Gulf Gate. Our pages on mobile diesel repair in Fruitville, mobile diesel repair in Laurel and mobile diesel repair in Sarasota cover breakdowns on these corridors.
Short-line freight, an airport and new construction in Sarasota County
The Seminole Gulf Railway still runs freight-only service to industries in Sarasota, hauling lumber, propane, stone, steel and scrap and interchanging with CSX once or twice a week. South of the city the rails are gone: the line was abandoned below Palmer Ranch in 2004 and from Palmer Ranch to central Sarasota in 2019, and the Legacy Trail now uses the right of way. In Venice, everything that moves goes by truck on I-75, US 41 and the Venice Connector.
Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport straddles the county line, with its terminal on the Sarasota side, and handled about 4.5 million passengers in 2025. Pilatus broke ground there in January 2026 on a facility described as its first step toward aircraft manufacturing outside Switzerland. The county EDC counts more than 923 manufacturing companies in the metro, and Tervis makes its insulated drinkware in Venice, which also has an 835-acre municipal airport. See fleet maintenance in Sarasota and fleet maintenance in Venice.
Growth brings its own trucks. Fruitville Road forms the southern edge of Lakewood Ranch, the master-planned community east of I-75, while Palmer Ranch, between US 41 and the interstate, reports more than 30,000 residents in over 90 subdivisions and apartment communities, and Laurel grew by about half between 2010 and 2020. Weather matters too: Hurricane Helene pushed several feet of storm surge through Venice in 2024, and less than 2 weeks later Hurricane Milton made landfall just to the north. On the public side, the City of Sarasota runs its own solid waste division and Breeze Transit operates 14 fixed routes on a Gillig fleet. Fleet maintenance in Palmer Ranch covers the largest of those communities.
Planned on-site visits in Sarasota County
Distance is the honest constraint here. A yard visit that handles several units in one trip is the best use of a technician’s day this far south, so we book PM, inspections and known repairs ahead and group them where we can. For an unplanned breakdown, call during shop hours and we will tell you straight when a technician can be there. If your truck is somewhere other than a yard, job site or roadside, call and describe where it is.
On site, the technician starts with diagnosis: dealer-level software connected to the truck, fault codes and live data read, and the suspect system tested before a part goes on. Starters, alternators, batteries, belts and hoses, air system leaks, brake chambers, fuel filters and water in the fuel, and sensor or wiring faults are typical field repairs. Engine overhauls and transmission rebuilds happen in the Brooksville bays, and we plan that trip with you. Each visit is documented on a digital inspection with photos, and the labor carries the same warranty as shop work. The mobile diesel repair page describes on-site service from start to finish.
RDI Fleet plans for Sarasota County operators
For a Sarasota County operation, an RDI Fleet plan is what turns long-distance service into a routine. We inventory your units at the yard, set intervals by miles, engine hours or calendar for each class, and put the visits on a shared schedule you can plan around, including the months before storm season if that is when you want trucks checked. Annual DOT inspections are done during PM visits.
Fleet accounts get priority scheduling, roadside help 24/7 and a 2-year/24,000-mile warranty on fleet repairs, and every visit adds photos and notes to each unit’s record. See fleet maintenance for how the program works, then call with a short list of the trucks you run in Sarasota County.
