RDI Power works on diesel Fords, from a 1990s 7.3 to a current 6.7 Super Duty, at our shop in Brooksville. Gas F-150s, gas Super Duties and EcoBoost trucks are outside what we do. If it has a Power Stroke, it is our kind of truck.

What fails, engine by engine
7.3L (1994.5 to 2003)
Durable, but age shows. Cam position sensor failures cause stalling and no-starts, the under-valve-cover harness can knock out injectors or glow plugs, and injector O-rings leak with time.
6.0L (2003 to 2007 Super Duty)
Oil cooler clogging that leads to EGR cooler failure, head gasket problems tied to the factory head bolts, FICM voltage failures and sticking injectors. Repaired with the root causes addressed, it can be a dependable engine; we lay out the options in should you bulletproof your Power Stroke.
6.4L (2008 to 2010)
Radiator leaks, EGR cooler failures, cracked up-pipes, and fuel diluting the oil during DPF regeneration.
6.7L (2011 and newer)
Bosch CP4.2 high-pressure pump failures on 2011 to 2019 trucks, turbo bearing failures on early trucks, NOx and EGT sensor faults, DEF system faults, and oil leaks on the 6.7.
Our Power Stroke service page goes deeper on each engine.
Behind the engine
Super Duty diesels used the 5R110W automatic from 2003 to 2010, the 6R140 from 2011 to 2019, and the 10R140 from 2020 on. We diagnose and rebuild all 3; see 5R110W repair, 10R140 repair and our transmission repair and rebuild page. Body clunks over bumps on a 2003 to 2016 truck can be worn cab mounts rather than suspension.
Chassis cabs, vans and light diesels
F-450 and F-550 chassis cabs carry service bodies, dump beds, wreckers and ambulance boxes, which adds upfit wiring, PTO circuits and heavier brake and suspension wear to the usual Power Stroke work. Our post on why an F-550 check engine light comes on covers a frequent complaint. E-Series cutaways with the 6.0 still serve as shuttle buses and ambulances. The Transit’s 3.2L and the F-150’s 3.0L are smaller diesels, but they carry emissions equipment including a DPF, and they get the same careful diagnosis.
Ford IDS and a Ford specialist
Generic scan tools read codes. Ford IDS is Ford’s own dealer-level software, and it does what generic tools cannot: module programming, injector trim code entry after replacing injectors on a 6.7, FICM data on a 6.0, cylinder contribution tests and other guided routines. Eric, our Ford specialist, spent 30+ years at a Ford dealership. Between the software and that experience, a Power Stroke gets diagnosed the way Ford designed it to be.
Before you call
Have the VIN handy; it pins down the year, engine and build. If the truck is being towed in, give us a heads-up while it is on the way. Tell us what the truck was doing when the problem started: cold start, towing, after a fuel stop.
When your Ford should see us
- Oil level rising between changes, or oil that smells like fuel
- Coolant loss with no visible leak
- Regens coming more often, or a DEF warning on the dash
- Hard starts, long cranking or white smoke at startup
- Fluid services due on Ford’s severe-duty schedule, which fits towing, idling and Florida heat
Book the truck in with a short description of the symptom and when it happens. We will diagnose it, send a digital inspection with photos, and give you a plan before any work starts.
