Dade City is the seat of Pasco County, a city of 7,275 people at the 2020 Census, and the working hub for the eastern half of the county. RDI Power does not have a Dade City address. Our only shop is in Brooksville, about 27 road miles and 40 minutes from the middle of town, and our mobile technicians make the trip the other way when a truck should not. This page explains how diesel repair for Dade City works with us, and which of our Dade City pages fits your truck.
Hatton, Major Dade and the making of Dade City
The town’s post office was called Hatton until December 18, 1884, when it became Dade City, named for Major Francis L. Dade. When Pasco County was carved out in 1887, Dade City became its seat. Downtown still centers on the courthouse square, home of the Dade City Cruise-In, and the old Atlantic Coast Line Railroad depot now serves as an Amtrak Thruway stop. The city’s motto places it “In The Hills of Pasco County,” and each January the Kumquat Festival is held downtown to celebrate the locally grown fruit. Pyracantha Park, now a civic center, was the site of a World War II prisoner of war camp.
What keeps diesels working in Dade City
Several large vehicle operations have Dade City addresses. These are facts about what runs here, not a list of our customers:
- The electric cooperative. Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative is headquartered at the Billy E. Brown Corporate Center, 14651 21st Street, and reports 281,074 accounts served.
- School buses. Pasco County Schools’ East Bus Compound, 1 of 6 compounds in the district, is at 13135 Fort King Road.
- Freight rail. CSX Transportation’s Wildwood Subdivision provides freight service to the city.
- Highways. US 98, US 301 and SR 52 all meet in Dade City, with US 98 and 301 running east of the downtown street grid.
Citrus and cattle were the original economy here; Roadside America notes Dade City was once called the Hershey, Pennsylvania of orange juice. City Hall now points to manufacturing and service employers, most of them downtown or out at the business center on the north end of town.

Making the trip from Dade City to Donto Way
The drive leaves town on 7th Street or the US 98 and 301 bypass, runs north on US 98 through Dade City North and Trilby to SR 50 at Ridge Manor, then west on Cortez Boulevard into Brooksville. From central Dade City, plan on about 27 miles and 40 minutes.
That is far enough to think about before driving a truck with a problem. A steady check engine light on a truck that drives normally is usually fine to bring in. A flashing light, a derate, a climbing temperature gauge, low oil pressure or a no-start is not. In those cases, call first, and we will decide together on a tow or a technician. RDI Power began as a mobile operation, when owner Ryan Bethell served fleets from Brooksville to Tampa out of a service truck, and on-site work is still a normal part of how we serve towns like this one.
Engines and systems behind Dade City repairs
We repair light, medium and heavy duty diesels: Power Stroke 6.0, 6.4, 6.7 and 7.3; Duramax; Cummins from Ram pickups to heavy-duty tractor engines; Caterpillar, including the 3406, with RDI Power Caterpillar certified; plus Detroit and Volvo. The trucks range from Super Duty, Ram and GM heavy-duty pickups, the Titan XD and Sprinter vans to Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, International, Volvo and Western Star tractors, buses and diesel pushers. Motorhome owners can go straight to RV repair in Dade City.
The systems are the familiar ones. Fuel injection, where we are a Bosch dealer and use Alliant Power fuel injection parts. Turbochargers and boost leaks. DPF, regen and EGR faults that set lights and derates. Cooling systems that lose coolant or run hot. Glow plugs, starting and charging, and the wiring faults behind many warning lights. The diesel service and repair page goes deeper on each.
Inside a Dade City diagnosis
Every job follows the same order. First, the symptom: when it happens, hot or cold, loaded or empty, and what changed recently. Second, the computer: dealer-level software, Ford IDS for Ford and WiTECH for Ram and other Stellantis trucks, reads codes, freeze frames and live data. Third, proof: the suspect system is tested directly, whether that is fuel pressure, boost, injector balance or a cooling system pressure test. Fourth, evidence: a digital vehicle inspection with photos and the technician’s notes reaches you before you approve the work. Last, the fix, aimed at the root cause and backed by a 3-year / 36,000-mile labor warranty.
The counter is run by a service advisor who spent 35 years as a Chevrolet dealership technician, and the bays include a Ford specialist with more than 30 years at a Ford dealership. Active and veteran military, police officers and firefighters from Dade City get 10% off.
One more distinction matters for operators. Work done under an RDI Fleet account carries its own 2-year, 24,000-mile warranty instead of the standard labor warranty, and fleet accounts can reach roadside help at any hour, not just during shop hours. A Dade City business running even a handful of diesels should ask about it.
Just north of the city limits, Dade City North has its own page on diesel repair in Dade City North. For anything in Dade City itself, call (352) 433-3800, tell us what the truck is doing and where it is, and we will lay out the options.
