RDI Power began as a mobile unit. Before there was a shop, Ryan Bethell served fleets from Brooksville to Tampa out of a service truck, and the mobile side of the business is still how we reach customers beyond the 25-mile radius around our Brooksville shop. Clearwater is well beyond it. So in the Pinellas County seat, the work comes to you: a technician drives to the yard, the job site or the stretch of road where the truck stopped, diagnoses the fault on the spot and fixes it there when the job allows.
US 19 through Clearwater: freeway lanes or service road
As of 2017, US 19 was built to freeway standards from just south of 49th Street North to just north of SR 580, with service roads running alongside. That matters when you call. A truck on the freeway lanes and a truck on the service road can sit a few yards apart and still need very different approaches: one may have room for a service truck to park behind it, the other may need to be moved before anyone can safely work on it.
So tell us which you are on, which direction you were heading and the last interchange or cross street you passed. FDOT’s 2025 count puts about 5,764 trucks a day on US 19 through Clearwater, inside a total of roughly 131,000 vehicles, so the freeway lanes are no place to stand. Get clear of the truck on the side away from traffic and wait there.
The interchange at SR 60 makes a clear landmark. It is described as the world’s first single-point urban interchange, and it marks the spot where Clearwater’s busiest truck road meets US 19.
SR 60 carries Clearwater’s most trucks
By FDOT’s 2025 inventory, SR 60 carries about 6,240 trucks a day through or beside the city, 12.0% of its traffic, more trucks than any other road near Clearwater. Alt 19 adds about 3,363 a day at an 11.4% share, and SR 580, which has its own interchange with US 19 in Clearwater, carries about 3,328 at 12.1%.
Our technicians approach from the Hillsborough side, coming south from Brooksville on the Suncoast Parkway and crossing into Pinellas on SR 580, which is the road they use to enter Clearwater.
Landmarks for a Clearwater location
A good location description gets a technician to the right truck the first time. In Clearwater, these work well:
- Clearwater Executive Airport. The city-owned 47-acre general aviation field 3 miles northeast of downtown.
- Morton Plant Hospital. One of the city’s major employers and a widely known reference point.
- The CSX crossings. CSX’s Clearwater Subdivision brings daily freight trains through the city; say which side of the tracks the truck is on.
- The US 19 interchanges. SR 60 and SR 580 both meet US 19 at interchanges, and naming the nearest one narrows the search fast.
On-site work for Clearwater trucks
The technician starts with the truck’s computer and the symptoms you describe, then tests the system those point to before replacing anything. Our technicians are ASE certified, and the shop is Caterpillar certified with Ford IDS and WiTECH diagnostic capability, so a Power Stroke, a Ram, a Cat-powered tractor and a Duramax chassis cab all get proper diagnosis at the curb. Typical repairs done where the truck stopped include:
- Starting and charging: batteries, cables, starters and alternators
- Cooling: hoses, clamps, belts and accessible leaks
- Fuel: filters, water separators and air in the system
- Air brakes: leaking lines and fittings, brake chambers and slack adjusters
- Electrical: sensors, connectors and wiring behind warning lights and derates
- Trailers: lights, plugs and wiring
Every curbside repair is written up in a digital inspection report with photos, so a Clearwater fleet manager or owner sees what the technician saw.
Clearwater jobs for the Brooksville bays
Some repairs belong in a shop: internal engine work, transmission rebuilds, alignments and anything that needs the truck on a lift. When a Clearwater diagnosis lands there, we say so plainly and settle the details with you: the day the truck can be spared, how it travels north and what to expect while it is in the bay. The work done at the curb carries straight into the shop.
Roadside coverage for Clearwater fleets
RDI Fleet accounts get roadside assistance 24/7, described on our roadside assistance page, so a Clearwater fleet truck that stops on SR 60 at night still gets an answer at (352) 433-3800. Clearwater owners without a fleet account can call that number Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The program behind these Clearwater visits is described on our mobile diesel repair page. For trucks that work Largo’s SR 688 corridor, see our Largo mobile diesel repair page, and planned upkeep for Clearwater units is explained under RDI Fleet in Clearwater.
