Inverness Highlands North is a small place, about 2,700 people at the 2020 Census, and a quiet residential one. It has no shop of ours; our only location is 1665 Donto Way in Brooksville, roughly 26 road miles and a little over 40 minutes from the middle of the community. Mobile technicians close that gap for trucks that should not make the drive.
Inverness Highlands North on the Gulf to Lake Highway
The community fills the space between the northwest corner of the city of Inverness and its neighbors: Hernando, the Citrus County community of that name, to the north, and Citrus Hills to the northwest. SR-44, the Gulf to Lake Highway, forms its southern edge, running east into Inverness and west 14 miles to Crystal River. Independence Highway is the local road on the Inverness side. Mail goes to Inverness 34453, and students are zoned to Hernando or Pleasant Grove Elementary, then Inverness Middle and Citrus High, on buses run by the school district’s Inverness transportation office. Citrus County Transit’s Orange route serves Inverness.
It is not lakefront and not downtown. What defines it for a truck owner is SR-44, the corridor that ties the county seat to Lecanto and the Gulf coast.
From Independence Highway to Donto Way
The measured route to our shop starts by heading out to SR-44 and east toward Inverness, where the highway becomes Main Street. At Pleasant Grove Road, CR-581, it turns south along the edge of the Withlacoochee State Forest, becomes Snow Memorial Highway, CR-481, in Hernando County, and finishes on Broad Street and Jefferson Street in Brooksville. That is about 26 road miles, a bit over 40 minutes. Drivers who prefer to stay on the main highway can take US-41 instead, which runs 21 miles south from Inverness through Floral City to downtown Brooksville.
For a truck that drives normally, it is an easy trip. For one that is overheating, losing oil pressure or stuck in a derate, 26 miles is a long way to find out how bad it is. Call first.
What passes Inverness Highlands North on SR-44
Inverness Highlands North is mostly residential, so much of the diesel work is in what surrounds it. Next door in Citrus Hills, Citrus Hills Construction is still selling new-construction homes in more than 30 styles, so home building continues on the community’s doorstep. Several miles west, the Suncoast Parkway’s Phase 2 connection at CR-486 opened in August 2025, and Phase 3 construction north toward CR-495 is expected to run about 5 years.
If your pickups, dump trucks or equipment haulers work any of those jobs, they are within reach of both the Brooksville shop and our mobile technicians.
Diesel faults worth a call in Inverness Highlands North
Some symptoms should not wait for a convenient day:
- A temperature gauge that climbs, or coolant you keep adding without a visible leak
- An oil level that rises between changes, a sign of fuel or coolant contamination
- Regens that come every few days, or a clogged-filter or DEF countdown message
- Long cranking on cool mornings, from glow plugs, a grid heater or weak batteries
- Black or white smoke, or a sudden loss of power on SR-44
We diagnose those on Power Stroke 6.0, 6.4, 6.7 and 7.3, Duramax, Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit and Volvo engines, using dealer-level software including Ford IDS and WiTECH, in a Caterpillar certified shop with ASE certified technicians. Our diesel service and repair page lists the systems we cover.
