If the registration on your truck says Hernando, FL, and you live off Citrus Hills Boulevard or Terra Vista Boulevard, you are in Citrus Hills, a census-designated place in Citrus County, and not in Hernando County, where our shop is. The gap between the 2 is real: about 34 road miles and 47 minutes from the middle of Citrus Hills to 1665 Donto Way in Brooksville. Here is how that distance shapes diesel repair for Citrus Hills, and which of our Citrus Hills pages fits the job in front of you.
Citrus Hills, a 1970s master plan between Crystal River and Inverness
The name comes from The Villages of Citrus Hills, a master-planned community that Gerald Nash and Sam Tamposi started in the 1970s. Despite the similar name, it has no connection to The Villages in Sumter County. The community markets itself as a 55-plus retirement community set between Crystal River and Inverness, with 4 golf courses, including Skyview, and a Welcome Center at 2400 N. Terra Vista Boulevard.
It is also growing. The census counted 7,470 people in 2010 and 9,302 in 2020. Pine Ridge borders Citrus Hills to the north, the community of Hernando to the northeast, Inverness Highlands North to the east and Lecanto to the south and west. Most addresses mail as Hernando under ZIP 34442, with edges in Inverness (34453) and Lecanto (34461).
Construction trucks and the CR-486 corridor in Citrus Hills
Home building has not stopped. Citrus Hills Construction sells new homes in more than 30 styles, from 1,666 to over 4,000 square feet, and building sites are tough on the trucks that serve them. Soft lots, curbs that are not finished yet, nails and screws in the dirt, and long idle stretches while crews work all show up later as tire damage, alignment problems and a particulate filter that loads faster than it cleans.
CR-486, Norvell Bryant Highway, runs through the community as a 4-lane divided road with a parallel bike path, linking SR-44 with US-41 in Hernando. Just west, in Lecanto, the Suncoast Parkway’s Phase 2 connection at CR-486 opened on August 25, 2025, after a $103 million build. Phase 3, a $244 million segment from CR-486 north to CR-495, began that same month and is expected to take about 5 years. A half mile or so south of the community line, the county landfill sits on SR-44. School buses share these roads as well. The district’s Lecanto office handles routes for Forest Ridge Elementary, Lecanto Middle and Lecanto High, while Hernando Elementary and Citrus High are served from its Inverness office. Put together, Citrus Hills is a quiet golf community with a lot of heavy work happening at its edges.
Citrus Hills to Donto Way, and when not to drive it
From central Citrus Hills, the drive runs south on Kensington Avenue to SR-44, onto the Suncoast Parkway, then US-98 and Cobb Road into Brooksville. Call it 34 road miles and about 47 minutes in normal traffic, which makes Citrus Hills one of the longer trips inside our 25-mile shop radius.
That length changes the math on a sick truck. A steady check engine light on a truck that drives normally can usually make the trip. A truck that is overheating, losing oil pressure, slipping a transmission or stuck in a derate should not attempt 34 miles, and a tow that long costs real money. A mobile technician can often diagnose the truck where it sits at a yard, a job site or the roadside, fix it there when the parts allow, and confirm what the shop visit is for when they do not. Fleet accounts have 24/7 roadside assistance.
What a Citrus Hills diesel gets in our bays
The bays handle light, medium and heavy duty diesels: Power Stroke, Duramax, Cummins and Titan XD pickups, Sprinter vans, box trucks, Class 8 tractors, buses and diesel pushers. Engines include the Power Stroke 6.0, 6.4, 6.7 and 7.3, Duramax, Cummins, Detroit, Volvo and Caterpillar; RDI Power is Caterpillar certified, a Bosch dealer and an Alliant Power fuel injection shop.
The complaints that bring diesels in are familiar ones: hard starts, smoke of any color, coolant loss with no visible leak, an oil level that rises instead of falls, regenerations that come too often, and a sudden loss of power with a derate message. Each has several possible causes, which is why testing comes before parts.
The process is built to avoid a second trip from Citrus Hills. We start with your description, read the truck with dealer-level software (Ford IDS for Ford, WiTECH for Ram and other Stellantis trucks), then test the suspect system directly before ordering parts. A digital vehicle inspection puts photos and the technician’s notes in front of you before you approve anything. The repair targets the root cause, and the labor carries a 3-year / 36,000-mile warranty. If you served in the military, or serve on a police or fire crew in Citrus County, ask about 10% off. Our diesel service and repair page covers every system in detail.
Which Citrus Hills page to read next
A truck that cannot move belongs on our mobile diesel repair in Citrus Hills page, which lists the roads and landmarks that help a technician find it. Pickup owners will find engine-by-engine detail on the Citrus Hills truck repair page. Operators with several units can look at RDI Fleet plans on the Citrus Hills fleet maintenance page listed with this one, and the community to the south and west, where the county runs its fleet shop and bus compound, has its own Lecanto diesel repair page.
