Horizon West is a community still under construction. Orange County adopted it in 1995 as a town center and 5 mixed-use villages, and the county now calls it the fastest growing community in unincorporated Orange County. You will not find an RDI building in Horizon West. Our technicians drive out from the Brooksville shop with scan tools, parts and repair equipment, and they work where your truck stopped: a lot inside one of the villages, a staging yard, or the shoulder of SR 429. From this side of Orange County, a tow to Brooksville is a long trip to discover a failed sensor, which is why the technician comes to the truck first.
SR 429 through the middle of Horizon West
The Western Beltway splits the community and carries traffic between Ocoee to the north and Four Corners and I-4 to the south. Inside Horizon West it has 3 interchanges: Seidel Road, Schofield Road and New Independence Parkway, which serves Avalon Road (CR 545) and holds the Independence Mainline Toll Plaza. FDOT’s 2025 traffic inventory counts about 10,553 trucks a day on the busiest segment near the community, close to 1 vehicle in 5.
A truck that quits on a toll road is easiest to find by the last interchange it passed and which way it was heading. Seidel Road doubles as a marker, since it is where upkeep of the road passes from Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise to the Central Florida Expressway Authority. Before you call, get the truck as far from the lane as it will go, turn on the hazards, set out the warning triangles and walk well away from traffic. A truck on the beltway shoulder can wait for a technician. A driver standing beside it should not.
Job sites inside the Horizon West villages
New streets, fresh fill and lots that changed shape since last month make job sites here harder to pin down than a highway. Give us the village or the nearest finished street, the gate or site entrance, and the name of someone who will be on site. A builder’s lot number or a dropped map pin helps too.
Ground matters for on-site work. A technician needs a firm, fairly level spot to jack, crawl under or open up a truck, and loose sand on a freshly graded lot is none of those. If the truck can be moved safely to a paved stub road, a slab or a compacted staging pad, put it there. If it cannot move, say so on the call, and the technician plans around it.
What gets fixed beside a truck in Horizon West
Every visit opens with a diagnosis. The technician connects a scan tool, reads stored and active codes, watches live data and tests whatever part the codes point at before anything is unbolted. On Power Stroke trucks that means Ford IDS; on Ram, WiTECH; heavy trucks get heavy duty software. Then comes the repair, wherever it can be done properly on site:
- A truck that will not crank: batteries, cables, grounds, starters
- Charging faults and a dead alternator
- Belts, hoses and coolant leaks at reachable fittings
- Air leaks, brake chambers and slack adjusters on air brake trucks
- Clogged fuel filters, water in the separator, air in the fuel after a filter change
- Sensors, connectors and wiring behind a derate or a warning light
- DEF faults, and parked regenerations where the system allows one
The findings arrive as a digital vehicle inspection, with photos of what failed and the technician’s notes, the same record a shop visit produces.
While you wait on a Horizon West lot or shoulder
A few habits keep a small failure small. Stop cranking an engine that will not fire after a few tries; long cranking flattens the batteries and cooks the starter, and the technician needs both healthy to test them. If the truck shut down hot, leave the radiator cap alone and let it cool. Take a phone photo of the dash before you switch the key off, because some warnings clear on restart. Note any fluid under the truck and its color. If the site has a landmark nearby, such as the new Horizon West Regional Park, whose first phase opened in 2026, mention it on the call.
When a Horizon West truck needs the Brooksville bays
Some work does not belong on a graded lot or a beltway shoulder: internal engine repairs, transmission rebuilds, alignments and jobs that need a hoist. When the diagnosis lands there, the technician explains what failed, and we plan with you when the truck comes out of service and how it gets to Brooksville. The findings ride along, and the shop picks up from there. Our page on mobile diesel repair explains the full program.
Calling about a truck down in Horizon West
During shop hours, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, anyone with a diesel can call (352) 433-3800. Outside those hours, roadside help is reserved for RDI Fleet accounts, which are covered 24/7. Have the location, the year, make and engine, any codes or warning lights, and what the truck did before it stopped.
Builders who would rather service trucks on a calendar than wait for the next breakdown can read how fleet maintenance in Horizon West works. If your trucks also run north toward SR 50, our page on mobile diesel repair in Winter Garden covers the roads there.
