Diesel repair in Inverness, FL

Inverness is the seat of Citrus County, and a lot of the county’s daily business runs through it. RDI Power does not have an Inverness address; our one shop is in Brooksville, about 24 road miles and 40 minutes from the middle of the city. What we do have is a mobile operation that comes to Inverness trucks where they work, and a shop close enough for the jobs that need a bay. Here is how both work for Inverness, and where to go next on this site.

Inverness, the Citrus County seat on the Tsala Apopka lakes

The town began around 1868 as Tompkinsville and incorporated as Inverness in 1919, the name said to recall the lochs around Inverness, Scotland. The lake setting earns it. Downtown sits beside Lake Henderson and Cooter Pond, part of the Tsala Apopka chain, with boardwalks along both, and the Withlacoochee State Trail runs between the lakes through Liberty Park. The old courthouse on Courthouse Square appeared as the courtroom in the 1961 Elvis Presley film Follow That Dream, and downtown life centers on that square and the Depot District. The city calls itself “Small Town Done Right,” hosts the Festival of the Arts each November and Fort Cooper Days each March, and mails under 3 ZIP codes: 34450, 34452 and 34453.

US-41 is the main north-south road, called Florida Avenue, and SR-44 is the east-west one: Main Street downtown and the Gulf to Lake Highway west of town. The 2 highways share Main Street between Talmage Avenue and Highland Boulevard. North Apopka Avenue (CR-470) and Pleasant Grove Road (CR-581) round out the local network.

2 roads from Inverness to Donto Way

US-41 looks like the obvious way to Brooksville, and it does run 21 miles from Inverness to downtown Brooksville. The measured route from the middle of the city to our shop takes a different line: west on Main Street to Pleasant Grove Road, south along the edge of the Withlacoochee State Forest, then Snow Memorial Highway after the Hernando County line, and finally Broad Street and Jefferson Street into Brooksville. That works out to about 24 road miles and 39 minutes.

Either route is fine for a truck that drives normally. For one that is overheating, smoking hard or derated, 24 miles is too far to gamble, and a call to (352) 433-3800 gets you a decision on a tow or a mobile visit.

What keeps diesels busy around Inverness

As county seat, Inverness is where several county-wide operations are based. The Citrus County School District keeps its offices at 1007 W. Main Street, and its Inverness bus compound covers routes for Floral City, Hernando, Inverness Primary and Pleasant Grove elementaries, Inverness Middle and Citrus High. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is headquartered in Inverness, with its aviation unit at Inverness Airport. Citrus Memorial Hospital is here too.

The growth story is at the airport. Phase 2 construction began in 2026 on the 80-acre Inverness Airport Business Park, a $14 million county project aimed at aviation manufacturing and logistics, with up to 700 jobs projected and a 3,500-foot taxiway extension. And SR-44 runs 15 miles east to I-75 near Wildwood, which puts Inverness one highway away from the interstate.

Inverness diesel trouble at idle, in town and on SR-44

3 duty cycles show up around a county seat, and each leaves its own fingerprints on an engine.

Idling on a job site. A truck that runs for hours at the airport business park build, or any site, burns fuel without moving and keeps its exhaust cool. Soot builds in the particulate filter and the EGR system, oil collects fuel and carbon, and the first symptom is often a derate message on the way home. For the mechanics behind it, read our article on DPF and regen problems before an Inverness job site eats another filter.

Stop-and-go on Main Street and Florida Avenue. Brief trips between stops rarely give a regeneration time to finish, so the cycle restarts again and again. Watch for a fan that runs after shutdown, an idle that sits higher than normal, or a fuel gauge that drops faster than it used to.

Steady miles on SR-44. Runs east to I-75 near Wildwood or west toward Crystal River load the injectors, the high-pressure pump and the turbocharger, and a truck that tows on those runs also works its cooling system hard. Hard starts, smoke under load and a temperature gauge that creeps upward are the early signs.

Whichever pattern fits your truck, the approach is the same. We work on Power Stroke 6.0, 6.4, 6.7 and 7.3, Duramax, Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit and Volvo engines in light, medium and heavy duty trucks, buses and diesel pushers. RDI Power is Caterpillar certified, our technicians are ASE certified, and Ford IDS and WiTECH give us dealer-level access on Ford and Ram trucks. The full list of systems is on our diesel service and repair page.

From the phone call to a fixed truck, for Inverness owners

It starts with a phone call: you describe the symptom and where the truck sits, and we choose together between the drive south, a tow and a mobile technician in Inverness. The truck then gets codes, live data and direct tests of the system under suspicion, so the repair is aimed at the cause rather than the code. Before you approve anything, a digital vehicle inspection reaches you with photos and the technician’s notes. The repair gets done once, at the root, with 3 years or 36,000 miles of labor coverage behind it; fleet units carry the RDI Fleet warranty instead.

Pickup owners can go straight to our Inverness truck repair page for common faults by make, and fleet operators will find RDI Fleet plans on the Inverness fleet maintenance page listed with this one. Owners on the northwest edge of the city, along SR-44, can read the Inverness Highlands North diesel repair page.

The shop is open Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Call (352) 433-3800 and tell us what the truck is doing and where in Inverness it is parked.

Inverness questions

How long does it take to drive from Inverness to RDI Power in Brooksville?
From central Inverness it is about 24 road miles and roughly 40 minutes on the measured route, which leaves town on Main Street and heads south on Pleasant Grove Road and Snow Memorial Highway. US-41 is the other option, about 21 miles from Inverness to Brooksville.
Does RDI Power have a shop in Inverness?
No. Our only shop is in Brooksville. In Inverness we work through mobile technicians who come to yards, job sites and roadside locations, and through scheduled visits for fleet accounts.
Which Inverness ZIP codes do you cover?
All 3 that mail as Inverness: 34450, 34452 and 34453. The choice between the Brooksville shop and a mobile visit depends on the truck and the problem, not the ZIP.
Can a mobile technician reach a truck near Courthouse Square in downtown Inverness?
Yes, for a truck stopped at the roadside or parked at a business lot. Tell us the street and the nearest cross street, and whether the truck is blocking traffic, and we will plan the visit or a tow.
