Shady Hills does not look like the Pasco subdivisions around it. It spreads across 27.4 square miles of acreage lots and open ground, and inside that boundary sit the county’s trash-to-energy plant, its landfill complex and a gas-fired power station. RDI Power has no address in Shady Hills. Our shop is in Brooksville, about 18 road miles from the middle of the community, and what we offer here is a direct route to bays that handle light, medium and heavy duty diesels, plus mobile technicians for the trucks that should stay where they are.
Acreage, pigeon lofts and a utility district in Shady Hills
Ask someone from west Pasco about Shady Hills and you may hear about racing pigeons before anything else. The community is known as one of the premier pigeon racing areas, home of the Gulfcoast Homing Club, with the lofts centered in the Highlands subdivision off Shady Hills Road just south of the Hernando line. Road guides describe it as rural, and the map agrees: Crews Lake Wilderness Park, where a 7.5-inch gauge miniature railroad runs and the Pithlachascotee River begins, sits off the same road. Shady Hills Elementary and Crews Lake Middle School are here too.
The other half of the picture is on Hays Road. The West Pasco Resource Recovery Facility at 14230 Hays Road is a mass burn waste-to-energy plant rated at 1,050 tons a day, taking in about 340,000 tons of trash a year. The same county complex holds a landfill, a 50-acre ash monofill and a construction and demolition debris landfill, and Pasco approved a $260 million expansion of the plant in 2023 to raise its capacity to 1,565 tons a day. Close by, at 14240 Merchant Energy Way, the 541 MW Shady Hills Generating Station has burned natural gas since January 2002, and Florida DEP certified a 573 MW combined-cycle unit on the same site in 2018. A Duke Energy substation is mapped inside the boundary as well. Together they set Shady Hills apart from the bedroom suburbs around it.
Shady Hills Road to Donto Way
The usual run to our shop is simple. From the middle of Shady Hills, take Shady Hills Road north to County Line Road (CR 578), join the Suncoast Parkway at Exit 37, ride it north to SR-50 (Cortez Boulevard) and turn east into Brooksville. Figure about 18 road miles and a bit more than 30 minutes when traffic is normal. The shop opens at 7:00 AM on weekdays, so an early start gets a truck into a bay at the beginning of the day.
County Line Road is the stretch to watch. Between Shady Hills Road and the Parkway it is owned jointly by Hernando and Pasco, and the 2 counties have an agreement to widen it from 2 lanes to 4. The $65 million project was in design as of June 2026, with right-of-way money due by July 2028 and construction money by July 2030. Until then, that piece of the drive stays narrow.
Addresses here can be confusing. ZIP 34610 carries the Spring Hill postal name, with Brooksville also accepted, so the Hays Road plant itself reads Spring Hill, FL. The land is Pasco County either way, and the shop and the people who answer the phone are the same.
Heavy loads, short hauls and the Hays Road complex
If your diesel works the Hays Road side of Shady Hills, its days look nothing like a highway truck’s. Heavy loads, low speeds, long idles and frequent stops are the hardest duty cycle an engine and its aftertreatment can get. Particulate filters load with soot because the exhaust never stays hot long enough to regenerate. Brakes and air systems do far more work per mile. Cooling systems run hot at walking pace with a full body behind the cab.
Those trucks get the same approach as any other: find the root cause instead of clearing a code and hoping. A derate on a dump truck can be a loaded filter, a failed sensor, a boost leak or an injector that is washing the cylinder with fuel, and each has a different fix. Our page on semi truck repair in Shady Hills goes further into heavy units and how they reach the bays.
Engines and evidence: a Shady Hills diesel on our bench
On our bench you will find the Power Stroke 6.0, 6.4, 6.7 and 7.3, Duramax, Cummins, Detroit, Volvo and Caterpillar, including the 3406. RDI Power is Caterpillar certified, our technicians are ASE certified, we are a Bosch dealer, and we use Alliant Power fuel injection parts where they fit. With Ford IDS and WiTECH on the shop laptops, Shady Hills Ford and Ram owners get dealer-level diagnostics without a dealership.
Here is how a visit from Shady Hills goes:
- The phone call. Describe the symptom and the spot in Shady Hills where the truck sits. Together we decide whether it drives up the Parkway, rides a tow truck or waits for a mobile technician.
- The testing. A scan comes first, then direct tests of whatever the data points to, such as fuel pressure, boost or injector balance.
- The photos. A digital vehicle inspection with pictures and the technician’s notes reaches you before any repair is approved.
- The fix. We repair the cause, and RDI Power’s labor warranty of 3 years or 36,000 miles stands behind the work.
Shady Hills owners deal with a service advisor who put 35 years into Chevrolet dealership service work as a technician, and Ford trucks often end up with our specialist, a veteran of more than 30 years at a Ford dealer. Owners can read what other drivers say in our 250+ Google reviews. Every system we handle, from injection to aftertreatment, is listed on our diesel service and repair page.
