RDI Power began as a single mobile unit. Before the Brooksville shop existed, owner Ryan Bethell drove out to fleets between Brooksville and Tampa and repaired trucks where they sat, and that side of the business never went away. In Shady Hills it matters more than most places: the community covers 27.4 square miles of acreage and county road, and a truck that quits on Hays Road or out past the Highlands is a long tow from our bays.
Landmarks that put a technician beside your truck in Shady Hills
House numbers are scarce on rural roads, so landmarks do the work. These are the ones that locate a truck fastest:
- Hays Road. The county’s West Pasco Resource Recovery Facility sits at 14230 Hays Road, with the landfill and ash monofill complex around it. Hays Road also runs north from SR 52 toward the North Suncoast Industrial Park.
- Merchant Energy Way. The Shady Hills Generating Station at 14240 is close to the Hays Road complex and easy to name.
- Shady Hills Road. The north-south spine, with the Highlands subdivision near the county line and the entrance to Crews Lake Wilderness Park, home of a miniature railroad, along the way. Shady Hills Elementary and Crews Lake Middle School are useful reference points too.
- County Line Road (CR 578). The Hernando line on the north edge, still 2 lanes between Shady Hills Road and the Parkway.
- The Suncoast Parkway. Exit 37 at County Line Road, and the Spring Hill toll gantry at mile 32, which stands inside Shady Hills.
- SR 52. The southern corridor; name the nearest cross road, such as Hays Road or Shady Hills Road.
What to tell us about a truck stopped in Shady Hills
Postal names trip people up here. ZIP 34610 reads Spring Hill, FL, with Brooksville also accepted, even though the land is in Pasco County. When you call, say Shady Hills, name the road plus the closest intersection or landmark, and add the make, engine and unit number. Then describe the last few minutes before it quit: a noise, a warning light, a smell, a loss of power. Those details decide what gets loaded onto the service truck before it heads for Shady Hills.
While you wait, get the truck as far from traffic as it will go, set out warning devices if it is a commercial vehicle and leave the key alone if the engine refuses to fire. Every extra attempt drains the batteries and heats the starter, both of which the technician will want to test in good shape.
Repairs a technician can finish on Hays Road or Shady Hills Road
Many breakdowns are small parts failing in an inconvenient place. Work a technician can often complete on site includes:
- A scan and live readings that pin down the fault before a part is swapped
- Dead batteries, corroded cables, failed starters and alternators
- Belts, coolant hoses and accessible leaks
- Clogged fuel filters, water in the separator and air trapped in the fuel lines
- Broken wires, corroded connectors and failed sensors behind warning lights and derates
- Air line leaks, brake chambers and slack adjusters on heavy trucks
The visit is documented with a digital inspection, photos and technician notes included, exactly as a shop visit would be. A repair done beside the road in Shady Hills is warranted just like one done in our bays.
When a Shady Hills breakdown needs the Brooksville lift
Some jobs do not belong on a shoulder or in a field: internal engine work, pulling or rebuilding a transmission, alignments, and any repair that needs the truck lifted. Even then the mobile visit earns its keep, because the truck arrives with a confirmed diagnosis and a plan. The tow route runs up Shady Hills Road and County Line Road to Exit 37, north on the Parkway and east on SR-50, about 18 road miles from the middle of Shady Hills. Heavy units have their own page: Shady Hills semi truck repair.
Fleet roadside and weekday calls from Shady Hills
Round-the-clock roadside help comes with an RDI Fleet account, and the details are on our roadside assistance page. Without a fleet account, Shady Hills callers reach us at (352) 433-3800 on weekdays from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The complete program is described on our mobile diesel repair page, and if a truck is stuck on the Hernando side of County Line Road, the Spring Hill mobile diesel repair page lists the roads there.
