Shady Hills is 27.4 square miles of rural Pasco County, so a pickup here racks up miles before it ever reaches a highway. When that truck starts acting up, RDI Power repairs it at 1665 Donto Way in Brooksville, about 18 road miles from the middle of the community. This page is about diesel pickups, chassis cabs and vans: Super Duty, Ram and GM heavy-duty trucks, the Nissan Titan XD and Sprinter vans. Tractors and other heavy units are covered on a separate page.
Pickup complaints worth a call from Shady Hills
Each common complaint has a logical first test, and starting there keeps the bill honest:
- Slow to fire on a cool morning. On a Power Stroke or Duramax, a failed glow plug or glow plug controller is a prime suspect; our glow plug page explains how they fail. The 6.7 Cummins uses a grid heater instead. These trucks also carry 2 batteries, and a single weak one pulls the pair down, so we load test both.
- Smoke you did not have last month. Black usually points to excess fuel or missing air, such as a dribbling injector or a split intake boot. White on a warm engine can mean coolant is getting burned. Blue means oil. Each color narrows the search; none of them should be guessed at.
- Regens that never seem to end. A truck that regenerates constantly, loses mileage and finally derates usually has a particulate filter that cannot finish its cleaning cycle. The question is why, and the answer can be a sensor, an EGR fault, an injector or simply how the truck is driven.
- Coolant that keeps disappearing. Radiators, water pumps and hoses are easy to pressure test. When the reservoir drops and the ground under the truck stays dry, the EGR cooler or a head gasket moves up the list.
Shady Hills Road, County Line Road and the run to Exit 37
The route to the shop starts on Shady Hills Road, turns onto County Line Road (CR 578) and joins the Suncoast Parkway at Exit 37. From there it is north to SR-50 and east into Brooksville, a little over half an hour in all.
That middle stretch matters when a truck is sick. County Line Road between Shady Hills Road and the Parkway is still 2 lanes, jointly owned by Hernando and Pasco, with a widening to 4 lanes in the planning pipeline. A truck limping along a 2-lane road has fewer places to get out of traffic, so think before you set out:
- Drive it up when the truck runs normally and the warning is a steady light or a slow seep you are watching.
- Call first when the light flashes, the truck derates, the temperature climbs or oil pressure drops. A few miles can turn a sensor job into an engine job.
- Ask for a technician when the truck is at a job site or on the shoulder and will not start. Mobile technicians carry scan tools, and some no-starts end on the spot.
Ford IDS, WiTECH and the specialists behind a Shady Hills repair
Matching software to the badge saves time. Ford trucks are read with Ford IDS and Ram trucks with WiTECH, which gives us module data and factory test routines without a dealership appointment. Duramax pickups, the 5.0 Cummins V8 in the Titan XD and Sprinter diesels are regular work. Laptops only go so far, so the people matter: our service advisor spent 35 years wrenching at a Chevrolet dealership, and our Ford specialist logged more than 30 years in a Ford dealer’s shop.
Every truck goes home with a digital inspection: photos and technician notes covering what failed and anything else worth watching, like a weeping hose or a worn ball joint. Shady Hills customers get the same labor warranty as everyone else: 3 years or 36,000 miles. The light duty diesel repair page lists every pickup and van service a Shady Hills owner can book.
Vans and chassis cabs working out of Shady Hills
If your business keeps Sprinter vans or service-body trucks at a Shady Hills address, each one that sits costs you a day of work, whatever its size. Those units get the same diagnosis a pickup gets, and a business running several of them can move to an RDI Fleet plan with scheduled maintenance and priority service. Shifting complaints often show up alongside engine trouble on trucks that tow or haul heavy, and our Shady Hills transmission repair page explains how we separate the 2.
Owners just across the county line can compare notes on our Spring Hill truck repair page, which follows the same Parkway to the same bays. To get a Shady Hills pickup on the schedule, call (352) 433-3800.
