Locals call it Lake Pan, and the lake is the whole identity of the place: fish camps, boat ramps, a wildlife management area and a community the 2020 Census counted as entirely rural. It also sits right on I-75 at Exit 321, on the same CR-470 corridor as a cement plant and limestone mine. We have no shop in Lake Panasoffkee. RDI Power works out of a single building on Donto Way in Brooksville, about 47 minutes south, and sends mobile technicians to trucks that should not make the drive.
Lake Panasoffkee: fish camps, boat ramps and an Outstanding Florida Water
Lake Panasoffkee is the third largest lake in west-central Florida and an Outstanding Florida Water. It once had 15 fish camps and was considered one of the best fishing spots in the state, and lodges still ring the shore: Idlewild Lodge and RV Park with 10 RV pads and a boat dock, Pana Vista Lodge with boat rentals, and Tracy’s Point Fishing Lodge. Marsh Bend Outlet Park has 2 boat ramps, and the 84-acre Shady Brook Greenway Park has another. The Lake Panasoffkee Wildlife Management Area covers about 9,911 acres, plus the 1,118-acre Panasoffkee Outlet tract, with its entrance on the south side of SR-44 about 2 miles west of I-75. Wysong Park and the Wysong-Coogler Dam sit on the Withlacoochee River.
The history goes back further than the fish camps. Around 1813, Boggy Island near the lake was a Black Seminole settlement known as Sitarkey’s Village, and Osceola sheltered in the Panasoffkee Swamp. In 1908 Charles G. King planted Monarch Grove, a 737-acre orange grove. More recently, the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s $26.9 million restoration dredged about 8.3 million cubic yards of sediment from 1,744 acres of the lake.
If your pickup tows a boat to those ramps, the ramp itself is part of its duty cycle. Backing a loaded trailer down and pulling it out again is slow, heavy work for a transmission and cooling system, and our Lake Panasoffkee truck repair page covers what that does to a pickup.
Exit 321 and the CR-470 corridor at Lake Panasoffkee
I-75 meets CR-470 at Exit 321. From there CR-470 runs east toward Sumterville and US-301, and along that corridor, at 4750 E. CR-470, the Sumterville Cement Plant runs a surface limestone mine and a clinker kiln rated at a nominal 1,186,250 tons a year, loading cement into trucks from silos. CR-475 heads south from Lake Panasoffkee alongside the CSX line toward Bushnell.
Hauling cement and stone is heavy, dusty work that wears brakes, air systems, air filters and aftertreatment, and the semi truck page for this community goes into it in detail.
The I-75 run from Lake Panasoffkee to Brooksville
From central Lake Panasoffkee, the trip runs through Exit 321, south on I-75 and west on SR-50 into Brooksville: about 34 road miles and 47 minutes. If the only symptom is a steady warning light and the engine pulls normally, the drive is usually fine. A truck that is overheating, losing oil pressure or in a derate should not go on the interstate; that is the moment for a technician at the yard, the ramp, the campground or the roadside, and our mobile diesel repair in Lake Panasoffkee page lists the roads and landmarks that help us find you. RDI Fleet accounts are covered by roadside assistance day and night.
Lake Panasoffkee diesels in our bays
Once a truck reaches Donto Way, a technician reads it with dealer-level software, Ford IDS on Fords and WiTECH on Rams and other Stellantis trucks, and tests the suspect system directly before naming a part. You get a digital vehicle inspection with photos and notes before any repair is approved, and the repair goes after the root cause so the truck does not make the 34-mile trip twice. Pickups, box trucks, Class 8 tractors, buses and diesel pushers are all regular work, with Power Stroke, Duramax, Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit and Volvo engines; RDI Power is Caterpillar certified and a Bosch dealer. Labor is backed for 3 years / 36,000 miles, and veterans, active military, police and fire get 10% off. The complete list of systems is on our diesel service and repair page, and neighbors down CR-475 can read our Bushnell diesel repair page.
