Sugarmill Woods is a Citrus County community and RDI Power is a Hernando County shop, but the county line is less of a gap than it sounds. From the middle of Sugarmill Woods it is about 17 road miles and 30 minutes to our only location, 1665 Donto Way in Brooksville. Trucks that can make that drive come to the bays. Trucks that cannot get a mobile technician sent to them. Below is how diesel repair works from here, plus a guide to the other Sugarmill Woods pages.
Sugarmill Woods: ranch pasture, pine seedlings and 3 villages
Before it was a neighborhood, this was cattle country. The land came out of the Norris Cattle Company’s 15,400-acre Twin County Ranch, and much of it was open pasture until the developers planted 1.2 million pine seedlings across it. The community was platted in 1972 and named for the Yulee Sugar Mill in Old Homosassa, with “Woods” tacked on to help sell lots. Its plan left greenbelts of natural land behind the lots, an idea other developments later borrowed.
The 2020 Census counted 11,204 people in the Sugarmill Woods CDP, spread across 3 deed-restricted villages: Cypress Village, Oak Village and Southern Woods. Sugarmill Woods Country Club, open since 1975, and Southern Woods Golf Club sit inside the community. There is no town government and no Sugarmill Woods ZIP code, so mail goes to Homosassa (34446) or Lecanto (34461), and the Sugarmill Woods Civic Association has represented residents since the early 1980s.
The boundaries are simple. US-19/98, signed as Suncoast Boulevard, runs down the west side. The Suncoast Parkway forms the east side, with the Withlacoochee State Forest beyond it. To the south is the Hernando County line.
Corkwood Boulevard to Cobb Road
The route we measured from the center of the community leaves on Corkwood Boulevard, turns onto Oak Park Boulevard (CR-480), picks up Citrus Way (CR-491) to US-98, then follows Ponce de Leon Boulevard southeast into Brooksville and Cobb Road. That comes to about 17 road miles and half an hour. Homes near Suncoast Boulevard or along the Parkway side will add or subtract a few minutes.
The Parkway also changed how this corner of Citrus connects to everything south of it. Florida’s Turnpike built full interchanges at US-98 and at W. Cardinal Street on the 13-mile extension north to SR-44, which puts toll-road access toward Hernando County and Tampa right on the community’s eastern edge. It is also a useful reference point if you ever need to tell a technician where a truck stopped.
Deciding what can make the US-98 run to Brooksville
Distance shapes the first decision on any repair from Sugarmill Woods. A diesel that starts, drives and holds temperature, even with a steady check engine light, a small oil seep or a new noise you want explained, can usually make the trip. A diesel that is overheating, showing low oil pressure, stuck in a hard derate or knocking should not be driven 17 miles to find out why. In that case, call (352) 433-3800 from Sugarmill Woods and describe what the truck is doing. We will help you weigh a drive, a tow or a mobile visit, and if it is a mobile visit, the technician arrives with scan tools and the equipment to fix what can be fixed on site.
Fuel, air and heat: what we test on Sugarmill Woods diesels
Most driveability complaints on a modern diesel start in 3 systems, and each one gets proven before parts are ordered.
Fuel. Common rail injection runs at pressures far beyond anything in a gasoline engine, so a little water or dirt in the fuel does real harm. Long cranking, a rough idle, white smoke at startup or a rail pressure code sends us to the lift pump, the filters, the high-pressure pump and the injectors, in that order, with balance and contribution tests to single out a bad injector. RDI Power is a Bosch dealer and works with Alliant Power parts; our fuel injection page covers the system in detail.
Air. Low power and black smoke often get blamed on the turbo. Sometimes that is right. Just as often the cause is a split boot on the charge air cooler, a sticking variable geometry vane ring or a restricted exhaust, so boost and backpressure get measured before anyone quotes a turbocharger.
Heat. A Florida summer is hard on any cooling system, and a diesel that tows adds to it. Radiators, fan clutches, water pumps and hoses fail in ways a pressure test finds quickly. Coolant that keeps disappearing with no visible leak points toward the EGR cooler or a head gasket, and that gets traced rather than topped off.
The particulate filter and EGR system ride on top of all 3. When fuel delivery, boost or temperature is off, the exhaust system feels it, which is why a repeated regen complaint starts with the engine instead of the filter.
Engines and evidence behind a Sugarmill Woods repair
The engines on our list are the same ones that cover the region: Power Stroke 6.0, 6.4, 6.7 and 7.3, Duramax, Cummins, Detroit, Volvo and Caterpillar, where RDI Power holds Caterpillar certification. That runs from 3/4-ton pickups through medium duty trucks, buses, diesel pushers and Class 8 tractors. Ford IDS and WiTECH give us dealer-level access on Ford and Ram trucks.
Before you approve anything, you get a digital vehicle inspection: photos of what the technician found and notes on what it means. Our labor on a Sugarmill Woods repair carries a 3-year / 36,000-mile warranty. The full scope of engine work is on our diesel service and repair page.
Other Sugarmill Woods pages, by kind of truck
Owners of Super Duty, Ram, GM and Titan XD pickups will find platform-specific details on our Sugarmill Woods truck repair page. If the truck is stranded or the job site cannot spare it, mobile diesel repair in Sugarmill Woods explains what can be done where it sits. Fleet plans, semi trucks, diesel pushers, transmissions, alignments and DOT inspections each have a Sugarmill Woods page of their own in the list alongside this one. If your truck spends more of its time farther up US-19, our Homosassa Springs diesel repair page covers the community just north.
Tell us what the diesel is doing and where it is parked, and we will tell you whether it is a drive, a tow or a mobile visit.
