This page is about diesel pickups and the vans and chassis cabs built on the same platforms: Super Duty trucks with the Power Stroke, Ram trucks with the Cummins, Chevrolet and GMC heavy-duty trucks with the Duramax, the Nissan Titan XD with its 5.0L Cummins V8, service-body chassis cabs and Sprinter vans. From Sugarmill Woods they come to 1665 Donto Way in Brooksville, about 17 road miles and 30 minutes from the middle of the community. Class 8 tractors and dump trucks are covered on a separate Sugarmill Woods page.

Super Duty and Power Stroke work for Sugarmill Woods owners

Ford trucks get diagnosed with Ford IDS, the same software a dealership uses, so we can command tests, read module data and run the procedures that follow a repair. Each generation of Power Stroke has its own habits:

  • 7.3 (1994 to 2003). HEUI injection run by engine oil pressure, so oil condition, high-pressure oil leaks and the injector driver module all enter the conversation on a hard start.
  • 6.0 and 6.4. Oil coolers, EGR coolers and head gaskets are the expensive parts, and coolant loss or a temperature split between oil and coolant is the early warning.
  • 6.7. A high-pressure fuel pump that does not tolerate water or debris, plus emissions hardware that needs regular highway time to stay clean. Leaks are common enough that we wrote up oil leaks on the 6.7L Power Stroke separately.

On every generation, current glow plug systems included, the first step is the same: confirm the fault with data before ordering parts.

Sugarmill Woods Ram owners and the Cummins

WiTECH gives us factory-level access to Ram trucks, including the engine, transmission and body modules. The 5.9 and 6.7 Cummins are durable engines, and when they do act up, the cause is often in the systems bolted to them: a lift pump that starves the injection pump, a grid heater relay that quits, an EGR valve fouled with soot, or a particulate filter that cannot finish a regen. Behind the engine, the 68RFE and the Aisin each have their own shift complaints, and WiTECH lets us read what the transmission module is seeing.

Duramax, Titan XD and Sprinter vans in Sugarmill Woods

Duramax pickups span a long run of engines, from the LB7, known for injector trouble, through the current L5P with full aftertreatment, nearly all of them paired with an Allison. The Titan XD’s 5.0L Cummins V8 is a less common engine that we work on regularly. Sprinter vans earn their keep for trades and delivery work, and when one sits, the business it belongs to sits with it, so vans get the same diagnostic process as any truck.

Before a sick pickup leaves Sugarmill Woods

A 30-minute drive is easy for a healthy truck and a gamble for a sick one. Some guidance:

  • Generally safe to drive in: a steady check engine light with normal power, a slow drip, a noise that has not changed in days.
  • Call before moving it: a flashing light, a derate that will not clear, a climbing temperature gauge, an oil pressure warning, or a smell of coolant or fuel in the cab.
  • Ask for a mobile visit: a truck that will not start at a job site or has stopped on Suncoast Boulevard or US-98.

Once the truck is here, a digital inspection with photos and the technician’s notes comes back to you before any work is approved, and our labor is warrantied for 3 years or 36,000 miles. For the full list of pickup work, see our light duty diesel repair page. Owners who want to understand the community’s broader diesel picture can start with Sugarmill Woods diesel repair, and drivers based a few miles up US-19 have a Homosassa Springs truck repair page of their own.

Call (352) 433-3800, give us the model year and engine of your Sugarmill Woods truck, and describe the symptom.

I'm so happy with the service I received from RDI Power. I was told by another shop that I had a transmission leak in my diesel truck. Not only did the staff at RDI Power correctly diagnose my issue (which was not a leak), they were able to resolve the issue...

Sugarmill Woods questions

My 6.7 Power Stroke in Sugarmill Woods cranks a long time on winter mornings. What gets checked?
The glow plugs and their control module come first, then the batteries. A Super Duty diesel carries 2 batteries, and a weak one drags the good one down, so both systems get tested before anything is replaced.
Does the 6.7 Cummins in a Sugarmill Woods Ram use glow plugs too?
No. The 6.7 Cummins warms its intake air with a grid heater, while current Power Stroke and Duramax engines use glow plugs. Either one can cause a hard cold start, and either one gets measured rather than guessed.
Can a Sugarmill Woods contractor's Sprinter van be repaired at your shop?
Yes. Sprinter vans are on our list alongside Ford, Ram, GM and Nissan diesels, and a van gets the same scan, testing and photo inspection as a pickup.
