Inverness Highlands South backs onto the Withlacoochee State Forest, and a diesel pickup here may spend its week on pavement and its weekend on a forest road. RDI Power repairs those trucks at 1665 Donto Way in Brooksville, about 35 minutes from the middle of the community, and sends mobile technicians when the truck should stay put.
Pickups on the forest roads west of Inverness Highlands South
The Citrus Tract’s camping areas are reached by forest roads numbered Trail 10, 13 and 16. If your truck spends regular time on unpaved roads like those, a few items deserve more attention than the owner’s manual suggests:
- Air filter and intake. A filter that is torn, crushed or not sealing lets fine grit straight into the turbo and the cylinders. Check the seal as well as the element.
- Brakes and wheel bearings. Grit works into calipers and slides and wears pads and rotors faster.
- Front end. Ruts and rough surfaces load tie rods, ball joints and the steering gear, and the first sign is often a truck that wanders on the pavement afterward.
- Radiator. Seeds, sand and bugs pack the fins and push coolant temperatures up on a hot day.
Diesel pickup faults sorted out for Inverness Highlands South owners
Each engine family has its usual list, and knowing it speeds up a diagnosis.
Power Stroke. The 6.0 is known for oil cooler and EGR cooler failures and head gasket trouble, the 6.4 for cooling and fuel dilution issues, and the 6.7 for sensor faults and aftertreatment complaints. All of them use glow plugs. Ford IDS gives us factory-level access, and our Ford specialist brings 30-plus years of Ford dealership experience.
Cummins in the Ram. Durable engines, but the 6.7 is known for sticking variable geometry turbos and the full range of DPF, EGR and DEF faults. WiTECH handles the Ram side.
Duramax. Injector problems on older engines, aftertreatment faults on newer ones, and electrical issues that show up as a string of unrelated codes. Our service advisor put in 35 years as a Chevrolet dealership technician.
Sprinter vans and the Titan XD. Both get the same codes-first, test-second approach.
Fuel and DEF habits that save money
Modern injection systems run at pressures that leave no margin for water or grit. Change fuel filters on schedule, drain the water separator when the dash asks, and buy fuel where the pumps turn over quickly. DEF has its own weakness: it degrades when it is stored hot, so a jug that spent July in the truck bed may trigger quality codes once it is in the tank. If a DEF warning appears soon after a top-off, mention where the fluid came from.
Engine trouble and transmission trouble often turn up together on a truck that tows. If yours shifts differently than it used to, the Inverness Highlands South transmission repair page explains how we separate them.
The 21-mile drive down CR-581 with a warning light on
A steady check engine light with normal driving manners usually makes the trip fine: Pleasant Grove Road south, Snow Memorial Highway once you cross into Hernando County, then Broad Street and Jefferson Street to the shop. A flashing light, an overheat warning, low oil pressure or a derate is a different story. Pull over, call (352) 433-3800, and we will decide together on a tow or a mobile visit.
At the shop, the truck gets scanned, tested and photographed, and the digital inspection with the technician’s notes reaches you before any repair is approved. Labor is backed for 3 years or 36,000 miles. Our light duty diesel repair page covers pickup work in depth, and owners just down US-41 can read Floral City truck repair for the drive from there.
