County Road 476 ends its run across northern Hernando County at a bridge over the Withlacoochee River, and Nobleton is the last stop before it. On the far bank the road becomes Sumter County Road 476, headed about 10 miles east to Bushnell. With 232 residents, Nobleton is a riverfront hamlet rather than a town, but it has its own post office, its own ZIP code and 2 public boat ramps within a short drive, one in town and one at Lake Townsen. RDI Power’s shop, at 1665 Donto Way in Brooksville, is about 14 road miles and 25 minutes from the middle of Nobleton.
Nobleton on the Withlacoochee
Nobleton sits on the southwest bank of the river in the northeast corner of the county. The post office, ZIP 34661, is on Edgewater Avenue, once part of State Road 39, across CR 476 from Nobleton Wayside Park. The park, at 29061 Lamkin Drive, has a boat ramp onto the Withlacoochee. Coming in on CR 476, you pass a gift shop, a restaurant and the Nobleton Outpost recreational area before the river bridge. The Withlacoochee State Trail crosses CR 476 here, and Nobleton Road, the old SR 39 route, follows the trail south toward Croom; it was not paved until the early 21st century.
Neighboring Istachatta is under 2 miles to the northwest, and Lake Townsen Preserve, with its own ramp and horse-trailer parking, lies along CR 476 to the west.
Boat trailers at the Nobleton ramps and the trucks that pull them
A tow vehicle that backs a trailer down a river ramp every weekend has a particular wear list:
- Trailer wheel bearings. Hubs that go into the water hot can draw water past the seals as they cool. Grease turns milky and bearings fail on the highway, usually far from the ramp.
- Trailer lights and wiring. Dunked connectors corrode, and a bad ground can make the lights flicker or the trailer brakes misbehave. Our trailer repair page covers the fixes.
- Truck brakes and transmission. Holding a loaded trailer on an incline and towing it home both add heat. Fluid that has been cooked stops protecting an automatic, so towing trucks belong on the severe service schedule.
- Cooling. A radiator or charge air cooler clogged with debris shows up as a temperature gauge that only climbs with a boat behind the truck.
Sand-mine country west on CR 476
Not every Nobleton diesel tows a boat. West of US 41, CR 476 runs between the mining lands and sand mines of northern Hernando County and crosses the CSX Brooksville Subdivision. Trucks that work those roads face dust in the air filters, packed radiators, heavy loads on the brakes and exhaust that rarely gets hot enough to keep the particulate filter clean. East of US 41, the same road passes a county fire station on its way through forest and farmland into Nobleton.
Getting a Nobleton truck diagnosed
If the truck runs normally with a steady warning light, drive it in: CR 476 west to US 41, then south into Brooksville. If it is derating, overheating, losing oil pressure or flashing a light, call (352) 433-3800 first. In the shop, technicians connect dealer-level software, Ford IDS and WiTECH among it, then test the system the codes point to before replacing anything. You see photos and notes from the digital inspection before approving work, and the labor is warranted for 3 years or 36,000 miles. Our diesel service and repair page lists the engines and systems we handle.
If the truck will not start at the ramp or on the road, mobile diesel repair in Nobleton explains what a technician can do on site. Istachatta, just up CR 439, has its own page: Istachatta diesel repair.
