Fleet work in Horizon West follows the build-out. The 2020 census counted 58,101 residents and 20,965 housing units, up from about 14,000 people in 2010, and Orange County describes about 20,704 gross acres here with 11,850 of them developable. When a place grows that fast, a work truck that misses a day costs more than its repair bill. RDI Fleet, RDI Power’s fleet program, is built to keep that from happening: a maintenance plan written for your units, with technicians driving out from our Brooksville shop to do much of the work where the trucks park.
Planning around the Horizon West construction calendar
The first conversation is about how your operation actually runs. Which units work which sites, which ones sit idle on certain days, what you spend on breakdowns now, and when inspections come due. From that we write the schedule.
If your work comes in phases, the plan can load heavier service into the gaps between phases and keep visits light during a push. If a unit is about to go out on a long assignment, it gets its PM before it leaves rather than halfway through. The point is that service happens on days you choose, not on the day a hose lets go on a lot off Avalon Road.
Hours, not just miles, for trucks parked on Horizon West lots
A dump truck or service body truck that idles through the day on a job site can add hours to the engine while the odometer barely moves. Oil, filters and aftertreatment all wear by hours in that kind of work, so a miles-only schedule lets them run long. An RDI Fleet plan tracks engine hours and PTO time alongside mileage and services each unit by whichever arrives first.
Light duty pickups usually stay on mileage or the oil life monitor, shortened for heavy towing, idle time and short trips. Medium duty vocational trucks lean on hours. Trailers get brakes, lights, bearings and tires checked on their own cycle, timed to the visit for the truck that pulls them.
Idle time, soot and the Horizon West exhaust system
Long idles do something else to a modern diesel: the exhaust never gets hot enough to burn soot off the particulate filter on its own. A truck that spends its day creeping around a site or idling for the air conditioning loads its DPF faster than a truck cruising the beltway, and it leans harder on active regenerations. The plan watches for that. Technicians read soot load and regeneration history during PM, check the DEF system and the EGR side, and flag a unit before it drops into a derate in the middle of a pour. The warning signs are laid out in our article on DPF and regen problems.
Trucks that run SR 429 between Ocoee and Four Corners every day are the opposite case. They pile up highway miles, so tires, wheel bearings, brakes and alignment carry more of their schedule.
Yard visits instead of Horizon West runs to Brooksville
For a fleet based in or around Horizon West, the drive to Brooksville is the expensive part of a shop visit. So the plan brings the shop to you where it can. Technicians arrive with diagnostic software and the equipment to service and repair on site, and a single visit can cover several units in the order you set.
Work that needs a bay, such as an engine teardown or a transmission rebuild, comes to Brooksville on a date we agree on, and fleet accounts move to the front of the line. When a truck has to make that trip, its other open items get done during the same stay.
Records that follow each Horizon West unit
Every visit closes with a digital vehicle inspection for each truck: photos of what the technician saw and notes on what was done and what is coming due. Over a season, those reports become a service history by unit. That history answers practical questions, like which trucks are worth keeping through the next phase of work and which are costing more than they earn.
Annual inspections go on the same calendar. Federal rules set the line at 10,001 lb GVWR for interstate trucks: above it, an inspection is due yearly and the report is kept 14 months. Our DOT inspections page covers what the inspection checks.
Warranty and after-hours coverage for Horizon West units on SR 429
Horizon West fleet repairs come with a 2-year / 24,000-mile RDI Fleet warranty. Fleet customers also have roadside assistance 24/7, so a truck that stops at the Schofield Road interchange on a Saturday still gets a call back from people who have its records.
The RDI Fleet maintenance page lays out every part of the program. Neighboring operators can see how plans work around the lakes on our Lake Butler fleet maintenance page. When you are ready, call (352) 433-3800 with a list of your units, or with no list at all, and we will build it with you.
