Inverness Highlands North is a residential community, but the highway along its southern edge carries working traffic. SR-44, the Gulf to Lake Highway, connects Inverness with Lecanto and Crystal River, and the projects near it, from home building in Citrus Hills to Suncoast Parkway construction farther west, are heavy-truck work. If your rigs are part of it, RDI Power repairs them at our Brooksville shop, about 26 road miles away.
Heavy trucks on SR-44 west of Inverness Highlands North
West of the community, the Suncoast Parkway’s Phase 2 connection at CR-486 opened in August 2025, and Phase 3, a segment from CR-486 north to CR-495, is expected to take about 5 years to build. Highway construction runs on dump trucks, lowboys, water trucks and service trucks, and if yours are on that job or on the Citrus Hills home builds next door, they work a hard duty cycle: short loaded runs, long idle periods and rough ground.
That duty cycle shows up in predictable places. Particulate filters load faster than they can regenerate, EGR valves gather soot, and DEF faults trigger derates. Air systems work hard with constant stopping. Steer axle kingpins and tie rod ends wear quickly on uneven ground. For the aftertreatment side in detail, read our DPF and regen problems article.
Air, aftertreatment and engine faults on Inverness Highlands North rigs
Heavy trucks tend to tell you what is wrong if you know how to read them:
- The air gauge drops when you pump the pedal, or the compressor never seems to rest. Look for a leak, a governor out of adjustment, a worn compressor or an air dryer that needs a cartridge. We check output, cut-in and cut-out, and the pushrod travel on every chamber.
- A derate with an emissions light. On late Cummins, Detroit and Volvo engines this usually involves the DPF, a NOx sensor, the DEF doser or the EGR valve, and something upstream, like a leaking injector, often caused it.
- Coolant temperature rising on a loaded climb out of a job site. Debris-packed radiator and charge air cooler fins, a fan clutch that is not engaging, or a water pump on its way out.
- Lights that flicker, gauges that drop out, or a string of unrelated codes. Chafed harness at the frame rail, a bad ground or a data link fault between modules.
On the engine side we rebuild injection systems with Bosch and Alliant Power diesel parts, replace turbochargers and head gaskets, and overhaul complete engines. Because RDI Power holds Caterpillar certification, older Cat engines, the 3406 included, stay in our bays. Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, Volvo, International and Western Star chassis are all regular work.
A heavy tow from Inverness Highlands North to Brooksville
Some trucks cannot be repaired on SR-44, and for those the haul to Donto Way is roughly 26 road miles. Give the towing company the make, the trailer and load situation and whether the driveline should be disconnected, then let us know the truck is coming so a bay is open. When a mobile technician has looked at it first, the truck arrives with the diagnosis started instead of from scratch.
The repaired truck goes home with a digital inspection that pictures the work plus its brakes, tires and suspension. Heavy-duty labor done for Inverness Highlands North customers is backed for 36,000 miles or 3 years. Fleets running several heavy units can read the Inverness Highlands North fleet maintenance page about RDI Fleet plans. Every heavy-duty system we handle is described on the semi and heavy-duty truck repair page, and rigs based in the county seat itself have their own page, Inverness semi truck repair.
