Every road into Oldsmar from the east crosses a county line. SR 580 arrives from Hillsborough, where it is Hillsborough Avenue; Tampa Road (SR 584) runs 6 divided lanes across the CSX tracks to meet it; and the SR 580 Bridge carries traffic over Old Tampa Bay to Safety Harbor. That makes Oldsmar the north Pinellas gateway for trucks headed into the county. When one of them stops, RDI Power’s mobile technicians come to it from Brooksville with scan tools, parts and the equipment to repair on site.
Tampa Road carries Oldsmar’s heaviest truck share
FDOT’s 2025 traffic inventory counts about 5,412 trucks a day on SR 584 through or beside Oldsmar, 12.3% of roughly 44,000 vehicles. Put another way, about 1 vehicle in 8 on Tampa Road is a truck. SR 586, between Countryside Boulevard and McMullen Booth Road, adds about 3,584 trucks a day at an 11.2% share, and SR 580 carries about 3,078.
On a road that busy, the first job is getting clear of traffic. Pull as far off as the truck will go, put out triangles and stay off the traffic side while you call. Tell us which direction you were headed, the closest cross street and whether you are east or west of the CSX crossing.
One rule applies anywhere the tracks cross the road: if a truck ever stalls on a railroad crossing, get everyone out and well away first, then call 911 and the railroad’s emergency number printed on the blue sign posted at the crossing. Only after that is it a repair call.
Reaching Oldsmar from the Hillsborough side
Our technicians reach Oldsmar from the north and east, by the Suncoast Parkway, Gunn Highway and Race Track Road. Tampa Bay Downs, the thoroughbred track at Oldsmar’s edge, is an easy landmark even though it sits across the line in Hillsborough County; it races from late November to early May. A truck near the track, on Race Track Road or along SR 580 east of town is as reachable as one on Tampa Road, so do not worry about which county you are standing in. Worry about the cross street.
Oldsmar breakdowns that end at the curb
Before anything gets replaced, the technician connects a scan tool, reads the fault codes and watches live data to confirm what actually failed. On Tampa Road traffic, the failures that stop trucks are often modest:
- Air system leaks. A cracked line, a leaking fitting or a failed brake chamber can keep a heavy truck from building or holding pressure.
- No-starts. Weak batteries, corroded cable ends and worn starters, all quick to test.
- Aftertreatment derates. A failed sensor, a DEF fault or a soot-loaded DPF can cut power; some trucks can complete a parked regeneration once the cause is fixed.
- Cooling failures. Split hoses, failed clamps and broken belts.
- Fuel delivery. Plugged filters, water in the separator and air in the lines after a filter change.
Pickups get the same depth of diagnosis as tractors. Ford IDS lets the technician read a Power Stroke the way a Ford dealer would, and WiTECH does the same for a Ram, so a derate on a Super Duty parked behind an Oldsmar office park is chased with factory-level data rather than a generic code reader. Whatever is found goes on a digital inspection report with photos, the same record a shop visit produces.
What to have ready for an Oldsmar call
A complete first call puts the right parts on the service truck. Have this in hand when you dial:
- The road, direction of travel and nearest cross street, plus a business name or landmark if you can see one
- Year, make, model and engine, and the unit number for fleet trucks
- What happened before it stopped: noises, smoke, smells, power loss or a warning light
- Any fault codes shown on the dash
- Whether the truck is loaded, and whether it is fully clear of the travel lanes
If the truck is in a yard, add who will meet the technician and how to get through the gate.
Oldsmar jobs that move to Brooksville
A shoulder on SR 584 is no place for internal engine work, a transmission teardown or anything that needs a lift. When the diagnosis lands there, we plan the move with you: when the truck can come out of service, how it gets to our Brooksville shop and what happens while it is down. Because the fault is already confirmed, the bay time goes to the repair, not to finding the problem again.
Getting a technician to Oldsmar
Fleet accounts have 24/7 roadside help, explained on our roadside assistance page. Without a fleet account, Oldsmar callers reach the shop at (352) 433-3800 on weekdays between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The on-site program that serves Oldsmar is described in full on our mobile diesel repair page. Across the bay bridge, our Safety Harbor mobile diesel repair page covers SR 580 and Philippe Parkway, and yards that want maintenance on a schedule can start with RDI Fleet in Oldsmar.
