RDI Power started on the road. Owner Ryan Bethell began with a mobile unit keeping fleets running between Brooksville and Tampa, years before the shop on Donto Way opened, and that is still the shape of the work in Oldsmar: our technicians come to the yard. RDI Fleet, our fleet program, organizes those visits into a plan, so preventive maintenance happens on a schedule you can see instead of after something breaks.
Oldsmar fleets that straddle 2 counties
Oldsmar is the north Pinellas gateway to Hillsborough. SR 580 links northern Pinellas with central Hillsborough and continues east as Hillsborough Avenue, Tampa Road meets it after crossing the CSX line, and CSX’s Clearwater Subdivision brings freight trains through town every day. If your yard is in Oldsmar, your trucks may spend as much of the day in Hillsborough as in Pinellas.
For maintenance, the county line should not matter. An RDI Fleet plan lists every unit wherever it parks overnight, whether that is an Oldsmar yard off SR 584 or a second site east of the line, and keeps one service history for each truck. The technician who comes out knows what was found on the last visit, regardless of which yard it happened in.
Oldsmar’s campuses and corridors
Oldsmar is not only a commuter town. Lockheed Martin has a facility here that employed more than 600 people as of 2015, Nielsen consolidated its Pinellas staff into an Oldsmar complex in 2003, and MarineMax moved its headquarters into the same office park in 2024. Past those campuses runs Tampa Road, where FDOT’s 2025 count puts about 5,412 trucks a day on SR 584, 12.3% of its traffic.
Stop-and-go work in dense traffic shows up first in brakes, cooling systems and exhaust aftertreatment, so an Oldsmar plan checks all 3 on every visit.
Building the Oldsmar plan unit by unit
We start with a conversation about the trucks and how they earn their keep. For each unit we record the year, make, engine, mileage or hours and its job. Then we set intervals:
- Miles for units that cover distance, such as box trucks and tractors running into Hillsborough.
- Engine hours for units that idle or run PTO equipment on job sites.
- Calendar time for anything that sits for long stretches, including trailers and seasonal units.
Light, medium and heavy units all fit, along with trailers and buses, so a yard that mixes Super Duty pickups, a box truck and an equipment trailer needs only one plan. The plan also reflects your budget: what needs doing now, what can be scheduled for next quarter and what to keep an eye on. Our article on choosing a diesel repair partner for fleets lays out what to ask any provider before you sign on.
Yard days that fit around Oldsmar traffic
A yard visit should cost you as little road time as possible. We book them on the days your trucks are least needed and service several units in a single visit, working through the unit list in the order you set. Trailers that run with a particular truck are serviced alongside it. Each truck leaves with fresh fluids and filters where they were due, a brake and tire check, a scan for stored and pending codes and a written list of anything found. If a unit turns out to need lift work, it is scheduled into the Brooksville bays for a day you choose rather than whenever a bay happens to open.
Annual inspections on the Oldsmar calendar
Federal rules require an annual inspection for commercial vehicles rated at 10,001 lb GVWR or more and used in interstate commerce, and the report must be kept for 14 months. Drivers still own their daily pre-trip inspection. On an RDI Fleet account, each unit’s annual is booked on the same visit as its PM, so a truck that crosses the county line every day comes out of service once for both. Each item checked on an Oldsmar truck’s inspection day is described on our DOT inspections page.
Records, warranty and after-hours cover for Oldsmar units
Every yard visit produces a digital inspection report for each truck, with photos of what the technician found and notes on what was done or recommended. Over time those reports show which units are holding up and which are eating budget. Repairs under an RDI Fleet account are warrantied for 2 years or 24,000 miles, fleet accounts get priority when something breaks between visits, and 24/7 roadside assistance covers a fleet truck that stops on Tampa Road at night.
Everything RDI Fleet includes, beyond what an Oldsmar yard sees on a visit, is laid out on the RDI Fleet maintenance page. Operators across the bay can compare fleet maintenance in Safety Harbor. To put your Oldsmar trucks on a plan, call (352) 433-3800 with a list of the units.
