Safety Harbor runs a tight operation of its own. The city’s Sanitation Division collects from about 6,800 homes with automated-arm trucks and runs commercial dumpster routes with containers from 2 to 8 yards. A business with 3 or 4 trucks has no department like that to keep its units on schedule. RDI Fleet, RDI Power’s fleet program, fills that gap: a written maintenance plan, yard visits from our Brooksville technicians on a schedule you agree to, and a record for every unit, whether you run 2 trucks or 20.
Sizing an RDI Fleet plan for a Safety Harbor operation
Plans are built around the operation, the budget, the fleet’s size and the kinds of vehicles in it. For a small Safety Harbor fleet, that starts with a short conversation:
- What you run. Each truck’s year, make, engine and current mileage or hours, plus any trailers.
- What each one does. Local service calls, deliveries, hauling, job site work or daily runs across the bay.
- What it costs you now. The repairs and downtime of the past year, and what you would rather spend on prevention.
- When a truck can be spared. The days and seasons when a unit can sit for a service visit without hurting the schedule.
From there, every unit gets its own intervals and goes on a shared calendar. A plan for 3 pickups and an equipment trailer is short. It still gets the same inspections, reports and fleet warranty a large account gets.
Philippe Parkway and SR 580 miles on the maintenance calendar
Safety Harbor’s 2 state roads ask different things of a truck. Philippe Parkway (SR 590) has the larger truck share near the city, about 12.3% of its traffic, while SR 580 carries trucks across the bay from Oldsmar, about 2,144 a day by FDOT’s 2025 count. A truck that crosses the SR 580 Bridge every morning and spends the afternoon on short hops through town piles up highway miles and city wear in the same day.
We set intervals to match. Road time goes on a mileage schedule. Idle time and PTO time go on engine hours. Brakes, cooling and exhaust aftertreatment get checked on every visit for trucks that do a lot of stop-and-go, because those are the systems that suffer first. What a Safety Harbor PM visit covers is listed item by item on our preventive maintenance page.
A Safety Harbor yard visit
Visits happen at your yard or lot. The technician works through the unit list: oil and filters where due, fuel filters and water separator, chassis lube, brake measurements, tire condition and pressure, belts and hoses, lights, and a scan for stored and pending fault codes. Trailers that run with a truck are checked on the same visit; our trailer repair page covers the repair side. Annual DOT inspections are booked alongside PM where they are due, so a truck comes out of service once instead of twice.
Each unit ends the visit with a digital inspection report: photos of anything found, the technician’s notes and a split between what should be fixed now and what can be planned. Repairs that need a lift, such as major engine or transmission work, go on the Brooksville shop schedule on a date you choose.
Reports a small Safety Harbor fleet can use
An owner who also drives, dispatches and answers the phone does not need a thick binder. Each RDI Fleet report is built to be read in a couple of minutes: a photo of each finding, a plain note on what it means, and a clear call on whether it needs attention now or can wait for the next scheduled visit. Upcoming PM and inspection due dates sit at the bottom. Hand it to a driver, a partner or an insurer and it makes sense without a translator, and a stack of them over a year shows exactly where your maintenance money went.
What Safety Harbor fleet accounts get between visits
When a truck breaks down between scheduled visits, fleet accounts get priority service, and roadside assistance for fleet customers is available 24/7, including a breakdown on the bay bridge after dark. Repairs done under RDI Fleet on Safety Harbor units are warrantied for 2 years or 24,000 miles. Over a year, the reports also become each truck’s service history, which makes the next budget conversation a lot shorter.
Safety Harbor owners can read more about the full program on our RDI Fleet maintenance page. Operators on the other side of the bridge can compare fleet maintenance in Oldsmar. Call (352) 433-3800 to set up a first conversation about your Safety Harbor trucks.
