For a city of about 3,700 people, Crystal River does a lot of the county’s heavy work. RDI Fleet, RDI Power’s fleet program, is built for operators whose trucks support that work: a maintenance plan written around your units, preventive maintenance done at your yard on a schedule you set with us, and repairs diagnosed to the root cause. Our technicians come out from the Brooksville shop, so Crystal River fleets do not lose a day driving trucks to a garage.
Crystal River’s working side: a power complex, a rail line and an industrial park
The Crystal River Energy Complex sits on a 4,700-acre site near the mouth of the river. Duke Energy has owned and operated it since the 2012 Progress Energy merger. It runs 2 coal units of 717 megawatts each, from 1982 and 1984, and a combined cycle plant whose 2 Mitsubishi gas turbines came online in 2018. Coal Units 1 and 2 shut down in 2019, and the nuclear unit, shut permanently in 2013, is being decommissioned. The only rail line still operating in Citrus County is the freight line to that complex.
Around it, the city has other working pieces. Shamrock Acres Industrial Park on North Citrus Avenue covers 65 acres of business units. Crystal River Airport is county-owned, with a 4,557-foot paved runway and a 2,666-foot turf strip, and a 2022 FDOT study credited it with $54.7 million in economic output. Citrus County Schools runs a Crystal River transportation office, 1 of 4 in a district whose buses carry about 9,000 students a year. And the City of Crystal River is one of the county’s water and sewer providers.
Building a maintenance calendar for Crystal River units
A plan starts with the units, not a template. We list each one by year, make, engine and mileage or hours, note what it does all day, and set its intervals accordingly:
- Highway tractors and box trucks on US 19 and SR 44. Mostly mileage-based, with tires, wheel ends and brakes at the center of each visit.
- Service and utility trucks. Engine hours matter as much as miles when a truck idles to run a PTO, a crane or a pump.
- Buses. Planned around the calendar, so brake, door, suspension and electrical work lands before the busy stretch rather than in the middle of it. See bus service and repair for what that covers.
- Trailers. Brakes, lights, tires and bearings on their own schedule, timed with the tractor when the two run together.
The people doing that work hold the credentials a mixed fleet needs: RDI Power is Caterpillar certified, our technicians are ASE certified, and the shop is a Bosch dealer and works with Alliant Power fuel injection parts. Cummins, Detroit, Volvo, Caterpillar, Power Stroke and Duramax are all engines our technicians work on, in pickups, vocational trucks, tractors and buses.
Annual inspection due dates go on the same calendar, so a unit that needs a yearly federal inspection gets it during its PM visit instead of a separate trip.
Yard service from Brooksville for Crystal River fleets
We schedule visits around your operation. If trucks go out at 6 and come back at 2, the technician works the afternoon. If Friday is slow, Friday becomes the PM day. One visit can cover several units, and each gets the same checklist we run in the shop: oil and filters, fuel filters and water separator, air filter and intake, cooling system, belts and hoses, brakes, tires, steering and suspension, lights, batteries and charging, aftertreatment and a fault code scan.
Some work belongs in a bay. Major engine and transmission jobs, and anything that needs a lift, come to Brooksville, where fleet accounts get priority and we plan the timing with you.
What a Crystal River fleet report shows over a year
Every visit ends with a digital vehicle inspection: photos of what the technician found, notes on what was done and a list of what should come next. After a few months, those reports become a service history for each truck. You can see which units keep coming back with the same problem, what you spent on each and when a truck is approaching the point where replacement makes more sense than repair.
Fleet warranty and 24/7 coverage for Crystal River units on US 19 and SR 44
Repairs done under an RDI Fleet account are covered for 2 years or 24,000 miles. Fleet customers also have round-the-clock roadside assistance, which matters when a unit stops on US 19 at night or on SR 44 halfway to Inverness.
