Citrus Springs began as a plan on paper. The Mackle Brothers laid it out under The Deltona Corporation as a subdivision of more than 34,000 homesites, and it is still filling in: the population rose from 8,622 in 2010 to 10,246 in 2020. US 41, called North Florida Avenue here, runs through it, 3 miles south of Dunnellon and 15 miles northwest of Inverness. FDOT’s 2025 inventory counted about 21,500 vehicles a day on that stretch of US 41, and about 6,493 of them were trucks, a share of 30.2%. That is a lot of diesel on a 2-county corridor, and when one of those trucks stops, RDI Power’s mobile technicians drive up from our Brooksville shop to fix it where it sits.
US 41 through Citrus Springs: nearly 1 vehicle in 3 is a truck
A truck share that high means tractors, dump trucks and box trucks are a normal part of traffic on North Florida Avenue, not an exception. It also means that a breakdown on US 41 is never lonely. Other heavy trucks pass close, often at speed, and a stopped rig needs to be as far off the pavement as the shoulder allows, with hazards on and triangles out behind it.
When you call, the cross street or nearest business is the best location marker. Say which way you were headed and whether you are nearer the Dunnellon end or the Inverness side. If the truck can still roll, a wide shoulder, a side street or a lot is a much better place for the technician to work than a narrow edge of pavement.
Finding a truck on the Citrus Springs street grid
Inside the subdivision, the challenge is different. A platted community with tens of thousands of lots has a lot of streets that look alike, and many of them are quiet residential roads. Technicians usually come in on North Deltona Boulevard from CR 491. To get them to the right spot:
- Give the exact street and the nearest cross street. A posted address or a builder’s sign on the lot narrows it down.
- Send a map pin. A shared phone location takes the guesswork out of a grid.
- Describe the site. An active building lot, a cleared lot or a paved road.
- Mention the ground. After a Florida rain, sandy lots can be too soft for a heavy service truck.
Repairs at Citrus Springs building lots
A subdivision that is still filling in has active job sites, and job sites mean heavy trucks on soft ground: dump trucks with fill, concrete trucks, flatbeds with block and lumber, and the contractors’ pickups and trailers that follow them. When one of those quits on a lot, the crew waits until it moves.
A technician can come to the lot and work on the truck there. Common job-site repairs include air leaks and brake chambers on trucks that will not release, starters and batteries on engines that will not crank, sensors and wiring behind a derate, hoses and belts, and fuel filters clogged with water or debris. Before anything is replaced, the fault is confirmed with codes, live data and a targeted test. The finished job is written up as a digital inspection, so the person paying can see each photo and read what the technician found on the lot.
Roadside repairs on North Florida Avenue in Citrus Springs
Highway breakdowns on US 41 come with their own list: trailer light circuits and damaged plugs, air leaks at glad hands and lines, charging faults, cooling system leaks, and DEF or sensor faults that drop power on a loaded truck. Most of those can be repaired at the roadside when the location is safe. If it is not, the technician will say so, and we talk through moving the truck a short distance first. Labor done on site carries RDI Power’s 3-year, 36,000-mile warranty, the same as shop work.
When a Citrus Springs breakdown needs the Brooksville shop
Internal engine damage, a transmission failure or a repair that needs a lift has to go to the shop. When that is the answer, the technician explains it, and we arrange the tow and the bay time with you. Since the diagnosis is already finished, the truck reaches Brooksville with a plan and parts on order.
