Sebring is often described as the largest populated area in the country without Interstate service. Every truck that comes here, whether it is hauling citrus, steel, drainage pipe or groceries, arrives on US 27/US 98 or one of the state roads that feed it. RDI Power has no shop, office or staff in Sebring. When a diesel breaks down here, we send a technician from our Brooksville shop with diagnostic tools and parts to repair it where it stopped, as long as the work can be done properly outside a bay.
No interstate: how trucks reach Sebring
US 27, cosigned with US 98 through Sebring, is the city’s link to the rest of the state. FDOT’s 2025 inventory counts about 34,500 vehicles a day on its busiest stretch near the city, roughly 4,071 of them trucks. SR 66 comes in from the west, running 25 miles from Zolfo Springs to US 27 at the south end of Sebring, and SR 17 carries a heavy share of trucks through the city.
Without interstate exits or mile markers to lean on, a good description is the road, the direction and the nearest cross street or business. The business sign you can see from the cab usually does the job. Rail landmarks help too: the South Central Florida Express short line meets CSX in Sebring, carrying sugar from Clewiston, and Amtrak’s Silver Meteor and Silver Star stop at the city’s 1924 depot. If you stopped near a crossing or the depot, say so.
SR 17’s truck share through Sebring
SR 17 carries fewer vehicles than US 27, about 7,700 a day on the stretch between East Center Avenue and Sebring Parkway, but roughly 2,503 of them are trucks. That is 32.5%, a higher share than on the main highway. On a road with that much heavy traffic, getting the truck as far off the pavement as possible and yourself away from it matters more than any detail of the call. If the truck can roll into a side street or a lot, ask us first and then do it.
Calls from the Sebring Regional Airport business park
Sebring Regional Airport, about six nautical miles southeast of downtown, is as much an industrial park as an airport. Its business park and Foreign Trade Zone cover 2,134 acres, and tenants include Advanced Drainage Systems, E-Stone USA, Structural Plank Industries, Gulf Coast Supply, Turf Care Supply, CitraPac, Crews Groves and D & S Cattle alongside aviation firms. Sebring International Raceway, home of the 12 Hours of Sebring since 1952, occupies part of the same property and makes an easy landmark. Paved yards there are good places to work on a truck, but each tenant controls its own property, so tell us the business, the gate and who will meet the technician.
A Sebring mobile visit, step by step
Here is what happens once the technician arrives:
- Safety first. The technician checks that the truck is in a spot where it can be worked on, and if it is not, we talk through moving it.
- Scan and listen. Codes, freeze-frame data and live readings come off the truck with Ford IDS, WiTECH or heavy-duty software, depending on the engine, and the driver’s account of what happened fills in the rest.
- Test, then replace. The suspect part is tested before anything new goes on. A no-start may be a battery, a cable, a ground or the starter; a derate may be a sensor, a harness or a DEF fault.
- Repair on site. Batteries, starters, alternators, belts, coolant hoses, fuel filters, air lines, brake chambers, slack adjusters, sensors and wiring are typical field repairs.
- Document it. A digital inspection with photos and notes goes to whoever is paying, showing what failed and what was replaced.
Sebring repairs planned into the Brooksville shop
When step 3 points to internal engine damage, a failed transmission or anything that needs a lift, the repair belongs in a bay. We explain the finding and plan the move to Brooksville with you, including when the truck can be spared and how it travels. Because the diagnosis is done, the shop can order parts ahead. RDI Power warranties that labor for 3 years / 36,000 miles, the same as a repair finished in the field.
The details a technician needs in Sebring
Our weekday hours run from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and in that window anyone can call (352) 433-3800 about a stopped diesel. RDI Fleet accounts can call for roadside help at any hour. Sebring is near the outer edge of our mobile range, so expect an honest estimate of arrival, not a promise.
Operators who run Highlands County routes every week can schedule their maintenance instead; see fleet maintenance in Sebring. Ten miles north on US 27, our Avon Park mobile diesel repair page covers a US 27 stretch where nearly 1 vehicle in 3 is a truck, and the full program is under mobile diesel repair.
