Davenport’s population went from 9,043 in the 2020 census to an estimated 16,764 in 2024, and its freight grew just as quickly. The county economic development council listed a 2.2 million square foot Walmart e-commerce fulfillment center at US 27 and I-4 in 2018, along with an Amazon sort facility in Davenport, and that same year Majestic Realty was permitting another 450,000 square feet beside the twin Walmart buildings. E-commerce runs on trucks that leave on time every day, and RDI Fleet, RDI Power’s fleet program, is built to keep them doing it.
Fulfillment centers and growth around Davenport
The growth is not finished. Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise is studying the Central Polk Parkway East, a tolled corridor from US 27 north of Cypress Gardens Boulevard to US 17/92 near Ernie Caldwell Boulevard in Davenport, and it lists freight mobility among the needs the road would serve. For fleets based in and around Davenport, it is one more sign that freight movement here is on planners’ minds, and one more reason to plan maintenance rather than chase breakdowns.
Delivery duty cycles on a Davenport plan
If your trucks deliver, they live a hard life by the standards of diesel maintenance. They start and stop all day, idle at docks, and seldom run long enough at highway speed to keep the exhaust hot. A Davenport RDI Fleet plan reflects that:
- Sprinter vans and light duty units follow the manufacturer’s schedule or oil life monitor, shortened for idle time and short trips.
- Medium duty box trucks are tracked by engine hours as well as miles, since idle time adds wear the odometer misses.
- Tractors running regional freight are planned mainly by mileage.
- Trailers get brakes, lights, tires and bearings checked on their own schedule, paired with a tractor’s visit where possible.
Brake measurements, aftertreatment checks and a scan for pending codes are part of every PM, because delivery work finds weak spots in those systems first. Our Sprinter van page covers the light duty side of a Davenport delivery fleet in more detail.
Brakes deserve a word of their own. Many medium-duty box trucks stop on hydraulic brakes, while tractors and heavier straight trucks use air. On hydraulic units, the technician measures pads and rotors or shoes and drums and checks calipers, hoses and fluid. On air-brake units, it is linings, slack adjuster travel, chambers and an air leak check. Delivery work wears both kinds quickly, which is why brake measurements are recorded at every visit rather than once a year.
Keeping Davenport units out of the US 27 bottleneck
A 2024 Bay News 9 report described heavy box truck and semi traffic at US 27 and Deen Still Road, where drivers detour around I-4. Every shop trip sends a truck into that traffic twice, once going and once coming back. RDI has no shop in Davenport, and for most fleet work that is the point: technicians drive out from Brooksville and service units where they park, on a schedule set around your dispatch. Only jobs that need a lift or a teardown, such as an engine overhaul or transmission rebuild, go to the Brooksville bays, on a date we agree with you.
New trucks in a growing Davenport fleet
If your Davenport fleet is adding new trucks, those trucks arrive with manufacturer warranties. Those warranties generally expect proof that scheduled maintenance was done on time. An RDI Fleet plan gives every Davenport unit a dated record from its first service: what was done, at what mileage or hours, with photos of what the technician saw. If a covered component fails, the paperwork is ready.
New trucks also bring new technology. Late-model diesels lean on sensors, aftertreatment and software, and a fault in any of them can drop a truck into reduced power. Our technicians diagnose those systems with dealer-level tools, including Ford IDS for Ford and WiTECH for Ram and other Stellantis trucks, and RDI’s technicians are ASE certified. On older units in the same yard, the plan shifts toward wear items: brakes, suspension, cooling, and the oil leaks and worn hoses that come with age.
Davenport fleet reports, DOT dates and warranty
Each visit produces a digital vehicle inspection for every unit, with photos and notes, so a fleet manager sees what the technician saw. For Davenport units, annual DOT inspections ride on the same calendar as PM. Repairs on fleet accounts carry RDI Fleet’s 2-year / 24,000-mile warranty, fleet accounts get priority service, and fleet customers have 24/7 roadside help at (352) 433-3800.
How Davenport-area accounts are onboarded and reported on follows the program laid out on RDI Fleet maintenance. If a truck is down today, our Davenport mobile diesel repair page covers on-site breakdown work, and operators with yards to the south can read about fleet maintenance in Haines City.
