The CSX terminal in Winter Haven handled 220,000 containers in 2015, its second year, and the 932-acre logistics center around it is approved for 8 million square feet of industrial space. The Polk Transportation Planning Organization lists it as a Strategic Intermodal System facility and a major freight activity center. Food and beverage distribution has followed: Coca-Cola Beverages Florida bought a facility of more than 400,000 square feet at the Central Florida Intermodal Facility, adding 172 jobs and keeping 182, and Chick-fil-A Supply is building a 244,000 square foot logistics center at the Central Florida Integrated Logistics Park, with about 180 jobs and operations planned for 2027. RDI Fleet, the fleet program from RDI Power, is how operators like these can keep their trucks on a schedule instead of on a shoulder.
Winter Haven’s logistics park and the fleets it draws
Whether your Winter Haven yard holds drayage tractors, regional tractors and trailers, delivery box trucks or the pickups and vans that support them, RDI Fleet covers light, medium and heavy duty diesels plus trailers and buses, and a single plan can take in all of it. Each class gets intervals that fit it, and the plan grows as the operation does.
Planning PM for Winter Haven route and delivery trucks
If your trucks run delivery routes, they start, stop and idle far more than they cruise. That kind of work wears brakes quickly, adds engine hours without miles and keeps exhaust temperatures low, which is hard on a diesel particulate filter. A Winter Haven plan for route trucks includes:
- Brake lining measurements at every visit, not just at the annual inspection
- Engine hours tracked alongside miles, with PM set by whichever comes first
- Aftertreatment checks, including DPF condition, DEF system faults and regen history
- Cooling system and belt inspections, since stop-and-go work in Florida heat loads both
Our article on DPF and regen problems explains how low-speed duty affects filters and what can be done about it.
Drayage tractors and trailers on a Winter Haven plan
If your tractors shuttle containers between the terminal and nearby warehouses, they rack up short trips and long idle periods. Their trailers and any chassis your company owns have no engine to warn of trouble, so brakes, air lines, lights, wiring, tires and bearings get checked on their own schedule. Where a tractor and trailer run together, their visits are paired.
Pickups and vans behind a Winter Haven warehouse
If your Winter Haven yard also runs support vehicles, such as diesel pickups, Sprinter vans or a service truck, they belong on the same plan as the tractors. Light duty diesels follow the manufacturer’s schedule or oil life monitor, shortened for idling and short trips around the logistics park. Our technicians carry Ford IDS and WiTECH for dealer-level diagnosis of Ford and Ram trucks, and RDI’s technicians are ASE certified.
A Winter Haven yard visit, step by step
Before a scheduled visit, you receive the list of units that are due and why: PM interval, inspection date or an open finding. On the day, the technician sets up beside each unit on firm pavement and works down the list. A typical tractor PM covers oil and filters, fuel filters and water separator, air intake, coolant, belts and hoses, brake linings and air leaks, tires, steering, suspension, lights, batteries and a code scan with aftertreatment checks. Each finding is photographed, and anything that cannot be finished on site is booked with your approval. Keys, gate access and a contact who knows the trucks keep the day on schedule. In a busy Winter Haven yard, a map or list of parking rows and unit numbers helps too.
Bringing PM to Winter Haven fleets
We do not have a shop or office in Winter Haven. Technicians come out from Brooksville on scheduled visits, timed for when your trucks are parked, and handle PM, inspections, diagnostics and many repairs at your yard. Bigger jobs, such as an engine overhaul or a transmission rebuild, go to the Brooksville bays on a date planned with you. Between visits, a breakdown on a fleet account gets moved ahead in our schedule.
Records, DOT dates and warranty for Winter Haven units
Every visit ends with a digital vehicle inspection for each unit: photos, plain notes and the work done. Annual DOT inspections for Winter Haven units are booked alongside PM so trucks come out of service once. Repairs on fleet accounts carry the 2-year / 24,000-mile RDI Fleet warranty, and fleet customers have 24/7 roadside help.
See RDI Fleet maintenance for the complete program behind every Winter Haven plan. If a truck is down now, our Winter Haven mobile diesel repair page covers breakdown calls, and yards along Cypress Gardens Boulevard are covered on fleet maintenance in Cypress Gardens.
