Edgewater builds boats. Boston Whaler, a Brunswick Corporation subsidiary, is headquartered here and builds its boats in town, and Team Volusia lists it among the county’s major private employers. Everglades Boats and Solace Boats round out Team Volusia’s Edgewater list. Construction businesses are part of the local economy as well, along with garment and honey businesses, while tourism on the Indian River remains the biggest driver. All of it depends on US 1 and I-95 for freight. RDI Fleet gives operations here a maintenance plan built around their calendar, with technicians coming out from our Brooksville shop on scheduled dates.
Production calendars and Edgewater’s boat-building trade
Manufacturing runs on schedules, and the trucks that support it should too. If your units move materials in, finished product out or crews between sites, you already know which weeks a truck cannot be spared. We put the PM, the annual inspections and any repair that can wait into the slower weeks around those dates, so nothing on the maintenance list collides with a shipping deadline.
Trucks that tow heavy trailers deserve particular attention on that schedule. Towing loads the transmission, the cooling system and the brakes harder than solo driving, so those units get transmission fluid condition checked, cooling systems inspected and brakes measured on a tighter cycle. The hitch and its hardware go on the inspection list as well; our hitches page covers that work.
Construction trucks on an Edgewater maintenance plan
Construction duty is different again. Dump trucks, crew pickups and equipment haulers spend hours idling or creeping around a job site, which builds engine hours without miles and keeps exhaust temperatures too low for the DPF to clean itself well. For those trucks the hour meter, not the odometer, sets the service clock. Brakes and tires get looked over for job-site damage on every visit, and the aftertreatment gets checked before a loaded filter turns into a derate in the middle of a pour. Crew pickups on the same account start from the manufacturer’s schedule and come in sooner when they tow or idle a lot.
Pickups and vans in an Edgewater fleet
Plenty of Edgewater units are light duty: a Super Duty with a Power Stroke, a Ram with a Cummins, a Silverado or Sierra with a Duramax, a Titan XD or a Sprinter van. They go on the same account and get their own schedule. Fuel filters and the water separator matter more than most owners think, because water that gets past them can damage high-pressure injection parts that are expensive to replace. Batteries and charging get tested before summer heat finishes off a weak one, and DEF systems are checked so a sensor fault does not become a limp mode on US 1. Our light-duty diesel repair page goes deeper on the pickups and vans in Edgewater fleets.
Trailers on the same Edgewater schedule
A trailer that fails takes its truck out of service with it. On an RDI Fleet plan, trailers are units in their own right, with brakes, wheel bearings, lights, wiring, suspension and tires inspected on a set schedule. Where a truck and trailer run as a pair, both are serviced on the same visit, so a single trip does the work of 2.
Yard visits from Brooksville to Edgewater
Our technicians drive over from Brooksville, so Edgewater dates are set weeks ahead and loaded with as many trucks as one trip can handle. During a visit, a technician works down the yard unit by unit: the service that unit is due, a photo inspection, and whatever approved repairs make sense without a lift. Anything bigger, such as an overhaul, a transmission job or an alignment, gets a slot in the Brooksville shop far enough out that you can line up a substitute truck.
A few things make the visit go faster: units parked with room to work around them, keys in one place, and a list of driver complaints for each truck. A driver’s note about a hard shift or a slow crank often points straight at the next failure.
Reports, inspections and the fleet warranty for Edgewater accounts
The photos and notes from each Edgewater visit stack up into a history for every truck and trailer. After 6 months, you can see which units keep coming back with the same complaint and which ones simply need their scheduled service, and that is the information a budget or a replacement decision should rest on. Federal rules call for an annual inspection on interstate commercial vehicles above 10,001 pounds GVWR; that inspection is booked with the unit’s PM, and the paperwork has to stay on file for 14 months. The daily pre-trip remains the job of each Edgewater driver.
Fleet work is backed for 24,000 miles or 2 years. If an Edgewater unit fails between scheduled dates, it moves ahead of non-fleet work, and the roadside coverage that comes with the account runs 24/7, so a truck that dies on I-95 after dark still has someone to call.
For breakdowns, see Edgewater mobile diesel repair. Fleets based just up US 1 can read New Smyrna Beach fleet maintenance, and the full program is described on fleet maintenance. Call (352) 433-3800 and we will start with your unit list and your calendar.
