Lockhart’s roads are still changing. The Central Florida Expressway Authority is studying an extension of SR 414’s toll section east from US 441 to SR 434, with elevated toll lanes built above the local lanes. For now, the interchange at US 441 is where the tolled John Land Apopka Expressway ends and free Maitland Boulevard begins, and a truck leaving a yard nearby has to pick one.
That choice shows up in the maintenance. A truck on the expressway logs steady miles at speed. A truck on Maitland Boulevard and US 441 spends more of its day braking, idling and pulling away from lights. RDI Fleet, RDI Power’s fleet program, sets each unit’s schedule by how it actually runs, and technicians come out from the Brooksville shop to do most of the work at your yard.
Toll miles, free miles and Lockhart intervals
Intervals on an RDI Fleet plan are set by miles, engine hours or the calendar, whichever fits the work. Expressway units tend toward mileage: oil, tires, wheel ends and alignment come due by distance. Surface-road units add hours and stops: brakes, starters and the exhaust aftertreatment wear faster, and the DPF sees more active regenerations when exhaust temperatures stay low.
Routes do not stay fixed, especially on a corridor that is still being planned. When a truck changes roads, its wear pattern changes, so we review the inspection history and the new mileage pattern and adjust its schedule instead of leaving one written for the old route.
What gets checked when we visit Lockhart
At your yard, a technician works through each unit due for service. Oil comes out and gets a look before new oil goes in; filters for oil, fuel and air are changed or inspected; the water separator is drained. Coolant is tested and belts and hoses are checked for cracks and softness. Brakes are measured, and air brake trucks get adjustment and a leak-down check. Tires are gauged for depth, pressure and wear pattern. Steering and suspension joints are inspected and greased. Batteries and the charging system are tested. The DPF, DEF and EGR systems are reviewed, and a scan pulls any stored or pending codes. Our page on oil and lube service covers that part of the visit in more detail.
Findings that can be repaired well on site often are. Bigger jobs, such as engine or transmission work, are booked into the Brooksville shop, where fleet accounts get priority.
Small fleets and mixed classes in Lockhart
A plan scales to what you run, whether that is 3 pickups or a yard of tractors and trailers. It also gives you a budget you can read: what needs doing now, what can wait for next quarter and what simply needs watching, with a straight answer on each. Light, medium and heavy duty trucks fit on the same schedule, each with its own intervals, and trailers and buses can be added. Each unit’s annual DOT date is set beside its PM so the truck is parked once for both. Above 10,001 lb GVWR in interstate work, federal rules call for that inspection annually, with 14 months of record keeping.
Getting a Lockhart fleet started
The first step is a phone call about what you run and how it works. Next, a technician walks the yard and takes stock of each unit: the engine, the hours or miles, the condition, and anything that should be fixed before it becomes a breakdown. From that inventory come the intervals and a calendar of due dates, booked around the days your trucks can be spared. Thin records are not a problem. The first round of inspections fills them in, and fleet accounts get priority service from the start.
Reports and coverage for Lockhart accounts
Lockhart units come away from each visit with a digital inspection on file: pictures of every finding and the technician’s notes. That record turns into a service history for each truck, which makes budgets and replacement decisions much easier to defend. Lockhart fleet repairs carry RDI Fleet’s warranty for 2 years or 24,000 miles, and roadside help is a phone call away 24/7.
The RDI Fleet maintenance page walks through the program. Operators at the expressway’s western end can see Apopka fleet maintenance, and those along Maitland Boulevard can see Maitland fleet maintenance. Call (352) 433-3800 to start.
