Before RDI Power had a building, owner Ryan Bethell ran a mobile unit that kept fleets running between Brooksville and Tampa, and US 41, the road through the center of Lutz, sits right on that line. RDI Fleet is the program that grew out of that work. For an operation based in Lutz, it means a written maintenance plan, preventive maintenance done at your yard on a schedule you can see, and repairs diagnosed to the root cause before any part is replaced.
Two kinds of Lutz yards
The Lutz Community Plan draws a clear line at Dale Mabry Highway. To the east, most of Lutz is semi-rural: homes on half-acre and larger lots, narrow roads, and agricultural uses the plan supports for their economic value to the county. To the west sit planned suburban developments. The community’s ZIP codes also run north past the county line to State Road 54, the area locals call Pasco Lutz.
Those differences shape a fleet plan. A yard on acreage east of Dale Mabry may hold a farm truck, a stock trailer and an equipment hauler that work by the season. A contractor based on the west side may run a row of pickups and box trucks that leave every morning and come back every night. We build the schedule around what you actually park, where you park it and when it sits idle.
Building the Lutz maintenance calendar
The first visit is a walk-around and an inventory. For each unit we record the VIN, engine, mileage or hours and its current condition, and we flag anything with an open problem so it gets handled first. From there:
- Intervals by duty cycle. A pickup that runs I-75 into Tampa every day piles up miles. A dump truck or a farm truck that idles and works in place piles up engine hours. Each one gets an interval that matches how it is used.
- Yard visits on a set rhythm. Technicians come out from Brooksville on scheduled days, so oil and filter service, fuel filters, brake checks and inspections happen in your yard rather than on the road to a shop.
- Inspection dates on the same page. Each unit’s annual inspection sits on the calendar next to its PM, so one visit covers both. Our DOT inspections page explains what the federal annual inspection covers.
- Priority when something breaks. Fleet accounts move ahead in line, and the work starts with a unit history we already have.
One contact at RDI knows the whole Lutz fleet, so you are not explaining the same truck to a new person every time. When a driver reports a problem, that contact can look up what the last inspection found before the technician rolls.
Corridors that wear Lutz trucks
FDOT’s 2025 inventory counts about 17,060 trucks a day on I-75 near Lutz, 4,920 on SR 54 and 4,368 on US 41. A fleet that runs those roads daily sees highway miles, stop-and-go traffic at the interchanges and long idle stretches in between. That mix is hard on brakes and on diesel exhaust aftertreatment. Low-speed work and idling can load a diesel particulate filter faster than steady highway driving burns it clean, which is why we track regen behavior and DPF condition as part of each PM rather than waiting for a warning light; our article on DPF and regen problems explains the warning signs.
The paper trail for each Lutz unit
Every PM visit ends with a digital vehicle inspection: photos of what the technician found and plain notes on what was done and what is coming due. A year of those reports gives each truck a service history. That record helps with budgeting, with deciding when an older unit has cost more than it is worth, and with answering questions from an insurer or an auditor.
Major work for Lutz fleets
Yard visits handle most routine maintenance and many repairs. Bigger jobs, such as a transmission rebuild or internal engine work, need the shop in Brooksville. When that comes up, we plan the move with you: which day the truck can come out of service, how it gets north and what the schedule looks like while it is down.
Lutz coverage between scheduled visits
Repairs under an RDI Fleet account are backed by a 2-year / 24,000-mile fleet warranty. Fleet accounts also get roadside help 24/7, so a unit that quits on I-75 at night or on a Sunday still has someone to call who knows its history.
The RDI Fleet maintenance page lays out the whole program behind a Lutz plan. If you need a truck rescued today rather than a plan, our Lutz mobile diesel repair page covers breakdowns. Operations that also park units up in Pasco can compare our Wesley Chapel fleet maintenance page. Call (352) 433-3800 with a unit list, or without one, and we will build it with you.
