Before RDI Power had a building, Ryan Bethell ran it as a mobile unit, keeping fleets on the road between Brooksville and Tampa. RDI Fleet, our fleet program, grew out of that work, and for an operation based in Zephyrhills it still runs the same way: technicians come out from the Brooksville shop to your yard on a planned schedule, do the routine work where the trucks park, and line up anything heavier for the bays. The goal is fewer surprises, a written record for every unit and trucks that stay on schedule.
Zephyrhills’ Chancey Road corridor and the fleets around it
Few towns this size have as much industrial ground. Zephyrhills’ 2019 Industrial Corridor Master Plan describes roughly 6,248 acres along Chancey Road, mostly open storage, warehousing and light manufacturing, plus a 481-acre limestone quarry in the southwest part of the plan area. An 80-acre industrial park sits on airport property. 2 CSX main lines cross the corridor, and the plan notes that Port Tampa Bay and CSX’s Central Florida Intermodal Logistics Center in Winter Haven can both be reached from it by road or rail. The city is also headquarters of the Zephyrhills bottled water brand.
Public fleets work here as well. Pasco County Schools runs its Southeast Bus Compound at 37820 13th Avenue, 1 of 6 compounds for a district that carries more than 45,000 students a day, and the city is 1 of GoPasco’s 4 bus hubs. Whatever your operation looks like inside that mix, the plan starts with the units you actually run.
Setting PM intervals for Zephyrhills haul and delivery work
The corridor puts quarry work, dock work and highway runs within a few miles of each other, and each of those duty cycles wears a diesel in its own way. A single schedule stretched across every truck wastes money on some units and shortchanges others, so we set intervals by the work each one does:
- Dump trucks and aggregate haulers. Engine hours count as much as miles, because loading, idling and crawling through a pit add wear without adding distance. Air filters, brakes and the air system get checked more often in dusty, heavy work.
- Warehouse and yard units. Short hops between docks and a lot of idle time are hard on aftertreatment and batteries. Regeneration history and charging system tests are part of every visit.
- Regional tractors. Units running toward the port or Winter Haven pile up highway miles, which supports mileage-based oil intervals and puts the focus on tires, wheel ends and brakes.
- Pickups and vans. Usually mileage-based, shortened for towing, short trips and long idle periods.
Trailers get brakes, lights, tires and wheel bearings checked on their own schedule, timed with the tractor’s visit when the pair runs together.
Yard visits in Zephyrhills, scheduled around your shifts
Technicians drive out from Brooksville on dates we set with you, built around your operation rather than ours. If your trucks are out at dawn and back by midafternoon, the visit fits the hours they sit. If one day of the week is slow, that becomes the PM day. Several units get serviced in a single visit instead of being shuttled to a shop over a week.
Work that needs a lift, heavy tooling or a teardown, such as major engine or transmission repairs, comes to the Brooksville bays. Fleet accounts get priority there, and we plan the timing so a unit comes out of service when it costs you least.
Inspection records and annual DOT dates for Zephyrhills units
Every visit ends with a digital vehicle inspection: photos of each finding and the technician’s notes, sorted into what needs attention now and what can wait for a planned repair. Over a year those reports turn into a service history per unit, which makes budgeting and replace-or-repair decisions much less of a guess. Our article on fleet diesel engine maintenance walks through what a thorough PM visit should cover.
Annual inspections go on the same calendar. Commercial vehicles that need a yearly DOT inspection get it on the same visit as their PM, and the report is kept for 14 months, so no decal sneaks up on you.
Warranty and roadside behind a Zephyrhills RDI Fleet plan
Repairs done on an RDI Fleet account carry a fleet warranty of 2 years or 24,000 miles. If a unit goes down on US 301 after hours or on SR 39 over a weekend, fleet customers have 24/7 roadside assistance, and that truck’s past inspection reports are already on record.
For a single breakdown in the corridor, our Zephyrhills mobile diesel repair page covers on-site repairs. The full program is on RDI Fleet maintenance, and operators who also work the north end of the county can compare notes with our Dade City fleet maintenance page. Call (352) 433-3800 with a list of your units, and we will show you what a plan for them looks like.
