Cheval takes its name from a large gated subdivision inside the wider Lutz community, and its edges are drawn by highways. Dale Mabry Highway (SR 597) forms part of the eastern border and the Suncoast Parkway (SR 589) part of the western one. Inside those lines the plan describes planned residential development, so the diesels that need help around Cheval are mostly on those two highways or parked at a job. RDI Power’s mobile technicians come out from our Brooksville shop to both.
A dead truck on the Suncoast Parkway at Cheval
FDOT’s 2025 inventory counts about 8,040 trucks a day on the Suncoast Parkway near Cheval, a little over 12% of the traffic. The road is run by Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise and has been all-electronic since cash tolling ended in June 2014, so there are no booths and no cross streets to use as landmarks.
If your truck loses power there, ease onto the shoulder as far right as it will go, turn on the hazards and put out your warning triangles. Stay off the pavement. When you call, tell us the direction of travel, the last interchange you passed and the nearest mile marker. Also mention whether the truck is loaded and what it did in the minutes before it quit, because a sudden shutdown, a slow loss of power and a temperature climb each point the technician toward different parts.
Dale Mabry stops on the Cheval side
The eastern border is a different kind of road. Dale Mabry carries around 2,310 trucks a day past Cheval, mixed into heavy car traffic with businesses and turn lanes. A box truck or service pickup that dies there is usually better off in a parking lot than in a lane. If the truck can roll a short distance safely, get it off the highway and tell us the business it is parked beside.
The Veterans spur near Cheval
A third road matters here. The Veterans Expressway spur, SR-568, ties the toll road to Dale Mabry and carried about 1,818 trucks a day near Cheval in FDOT’s 2025 count, roughly 12% of its traffic. Ramps and connectors like this have less room to stop than a mainline shoulder, so if your truck starts to fail on the spur, try to carry it through to Dale Mabry or the expressway before stopping. When you call, tell us whether you are on the spur or the main expressway, because a technician heading for the wrong one loses time getting turned around.
Work trucks inside Cheval’s gates
The Lutz Community Plan groups Cheval with Calusa Trace, Villa Rosa and Heritage Harbor as planned developments west of Dale Mabry, with little room left for new projects of that size. When a contractor’s diesel pickup or box truck fails partway through a job in one of those neighborhoods, it is stuck behind a gate as well as stuck in place.
A technician can reach a work truck inside a gated neighborhood as long as entry is arranged. Have the gate code or a guard contact ready, plus the name of someone on the job who can meet the service truck. Describe the job and where the truck sits on it when you call, so the technician knows what to expect at the gate.
Repairs a Cheval visit can usually finish
Diagnosis comes first: the technician connects to the truck, reads stored and pending codes and watches live data before replacing anything. From there, common on-site fixes include:
- No-crank and slow-crank faults: batteries, cables, ground straps and starters
- Charging failures from a worn alternator or a loose belt
- Coolant loss from a hose, a clamp or a water pump weep
- Fuel delivery trouble from a plugged filter or water in the tank
- Sensor and harness faults that trigger a derate on a late-model diesel
The visit is written up in a digital inspection with photos, the same record a shop job produces. Heavier failures, such as internal engine or transmission damage, are planned into our Brooksville shop with you instead of being forced on a shoulder.
Getting help for a truck near Cheval
Call (352) 433-3800 on a weekday between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Cheval-area operators who want around-the-clock help can get it with an RDI Fleet account; the roadside assistance page explains that coverage.
