As the Levy County seat, Bronson is where county government keeps its vehicles running. The county’s Fleet Division, at 660 N Hathaway Avenue, handles acquisition, maintenance, fueling and lifecycle management for the vehicles and equipment of every county department. That is what a well-run public fleet looks like: one office that knows every unit from purchase to disposal. If you run a handful of trucks in a town of about 1,140 people without a shop or mechanic of your own, you have none of that. RDI Fleet, RDI Power’s fleet program, gives them the planning and the records without the payroll. There is no RDI location in Bronson; technicians come out from Brooksville.
Lifecycle thinking for Bronson operators
The phrase in the county’s description worth borrowing is lifecycle management. A truck is not only a series of repairs; it is a purchase, years of service and eventually a decision to replace it. Without records, that decision gets made on a bad day at the roadside. With them, it gets made at a desk. An RDI Fleet plan builds those records from the first visit: every inspection, repair and finding goes into the unit’s file, with photos, so you can see when a truck is still worth its keep and when it has become the one that keeps costing you.
Long days for Bronson vans and trucks
Levy County Transit runs its door-to-door service out of 970A East Hathaway Avenue on weekdays from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. If your own vans or trucks keep hours anything like that, two things follow. They pile up engine hours, and idle hours, much faster than an odometer suggests, so intervals based on hours or a shortened calendar make more sense than mileage alone. And the windows when a unit can come off the road are narrow, which is why a plan books them weeks ahead rather than waiting for something to fail. Buses and passenger vans also get extra attention to brakes, doors and electrical load; our bus service and repair page covers that side.
What a Bronson PM visit covers
A scheduled visit is more than an oil change in the yard. For each unit due, the technician changes the oil and filters and looks at what came out, services the fuel filters and water separator, checks the air filter and intake, inspects coolant, belts and hoses, measures brake linings and, on air-brake trucks, checks adjustment and leaks. Tires, steering, suspension, lights, batteries and the charging system get looked over, the aftertreatment system is checked, and a scan picks up stored and pending codes before they turn into a dash light on Alt US-27. Everything found is photographed.
Setting up a Bronson RDI Fleet plan
The start is simple. We talk through what you run and how it works, then a technician walks your yard and builds an inventory: VIN, engine, mileage or hours and condition for each unit, with open problems flagged first. From there we set intervals by class, line up annual inspection dates for anything that needs one, and give you a calendar. Visits happen at your yard on weekdays. Jobs that need a lift or a teardown, such as major engine or transmission work, go to our Brooksville bays on a date you agree to.
Annual inspection dates for Bronson units
Any truck, trailer or bus of 10,001 pounds GVWR or more running interstate needs an annual inspection, with the report kept for 14 months. On a Bronson plan, those dates are on the same calendar as each unit’s PM, so the inspection happens during a visit that was already planned. Defects are written up with photos and fixed after you approve them, and drivers still do their own pre-trip every morning.
Bronson inspections, records and roadside
Every visit ends with a digital vehicle inspection for each unit serviced, photos and technician notes included, sorted into what needs doing now and what can be planned. Fleet repairs carry RDI Fleet’s 2-year / 24,000-mile warranty. Fleet customers also have 24/7 roadside assistance, so a unit that quits on Alt US-27 at 4:30 in the morning is covered.
