Draw a circle around Hillsborough County and Progress Village lands near the middle of it. The community sits 9 miles southeast of downtown Tampa, with I-75 along its eastern edge and County Road 573 on the west, between Palm River-Clair Mel, Riverview and Gibsonton. It is mostly residential, and a fleet based near the center of the county can have routes running in any direction from the same yard. RDI Fleet, the fleet maintenance program from RDI Power, keeps those trucks on a schedule, with technicians from our Brooksville shop doing the routine work where the trucks park.
A central Progress Village base with routes in every direction
From Progress Village, I-75 heads north toward I-4 and south toward Gibsonton, US 41 runs a short way to the west, and US 301 sits just past the interstate to the east. FDOT counts about 11,969 trucks a day on I-75 here, 5,003 on the nearby stretch of US 41 and 3,276 on US 301. A yard in the middle of that network may send one truck onto the interstate and another onto local streets on the same morning.
That mix is why an RDI Fleet plan sets intervals unit by unit. A truck that runs I-75 all day wears like a highway truck. One that makes short stops on local roads wears like a delivery truck, with more braking and more idling. Treating them the same overspends on one and underserves the other.
Small-fleet plans for Progress Village operators
Plenty of fleets are small: 2 or 3 service trucks, a box truck, a trailer. Every RDI Fleet plan is built around the operation, budget, fleet size and fleet type, and a small fleet gets a plan sized to it rather than a stripped-down version of a large one. It still comes with scheduled PM, priority service, photo reports, the fleet warranty and 24/7 roadside for fleet units. Pickups, medium duty trucks, heavy tractors, trailers and buses based in Progress Village all qualify.
What a Progress Village yard visit includes
On a scheduled visit, the technician works through each unit on the list:
- Engine oil and filter, with a look at the drained oil
- Fuel filters and the water separator
- Air filter and intake check
- Belts, hoses, coolant and the radiator
- Brake inspection and, on air brake trucks, adjustment and leak checks
- Tires, steering and suspension, plus chassis lube
- Batteries and the charging system
- A scan for stored and pending fault codes
Findings for each Progress Village unit go on a digital inspection with photos, sorted into now, soon and watch. Our oil and lube service page covers the fluids side in more detail.
Intervals that follow the work in Progress Village
We start from each manufacturer’s schedule, then adjust. Highway units go mostly on mileage. Trucks that idle or run equipment go on engine hours. Units that sit between jobs get calendar checks, because batteries, fuel and tires age even when the odometer does not move. Annual DOT inspections land on the same calendar as PM, so a truck comes out of service once for both. Heavier repairs, such as major engine or transmission work, are scheduled into the Brooksville bays on a date that suits you.
Repair or replace: using the Progress Village records
Every fleet eventually faces the question of whether an aging truck deserves another repair. Without records, that decision is a guess. With a year of RDI Fleet inspection reports, it is a comparison: what each unit has cost, what failed, what the photos show is wearing out next and what the technician recommends. For a small Progress Village fleet, where one bad truck is a big share of the budget, that history can be the difference between a sensible rebuild and money spent on a unit that should have been retired.
Warranty, records and 24/7 roadside for Progress Village fleet units
Repairs on Progress Village fleet accounts carry a 2-year / 24,000-mile warranty. Fleet units move to the front of the line when something fails, and roadside help is there around the clock. Over a year, the inspection reports become a service history for each truck, which makes budgeting and replacement decisions a matter of record.
Every element of the program is explained on our RDI Fleet maintenance page, and none of it shrinks because a yard is small. For yards a little north toward the port corridors, see Palm River-Clair Mel fleet maintenance. Call (352) 433-3800 with your Progress Village unit list.
