Heavy trucks do not have to roll down Pennsylvania Avenue to matter to San Antonio. The city’s 33576 ZIP stretches west toward I-75 and covers business parks and county facilities, and since 2023 the state highway has run just south of town. RDI Power repairs the tractors, dump trucks and heavy straight trucks that work that ground, in our Brooksville heavy bays about 24 road miles away or on site with a mobile technician.
The 2023 SR 52 realignment south of San Antonio
For years SR 52 ran through the middle of San Antonio. On February 17, 2023, the state opened a 7-mile, $82 million realignment south of town, 4 lanes and divided, and the old road through the city became County Road 52. East of I-75 the new SR 52 passes an industrial park and an RV dealership, cuts through the Mirada development and meets Curley Road just south of the city limits, with signals at Mirada Boulevard and Curley Road.
A divided 4-lane changes what a breakdown looks like. A tractor that loses power there is on a shoulder beside traffic at highway speed, not on a town street. Pull as far from the travel lanes as you safely can, put out your triangles and call. The direction you were heading and the last signal you passed, Mirada Boulevard or Curley Road, tell a technician exactly where to look.
What strands a tractor near San Antonio, and what fixes it there
Plenty of heavy truck failures can be handled where the truck sits. A mobile technician arrives with heavy duty scan tools and starts by reading codes and live data, then works through the likely list:
- Air system: a cracked line, a leaking fitting, a stuck valve or a dryer that has quit, any of which can keep a truck from building pressure.
- Electrical: dead batteries, a corroded ground, a failed starter or alternator, and trailer light faults.
- Fuel: plugged filters, water in the fuel and air in the lines after a filter change.
- Aftertreatment: a failed sensor or a DEF fault that has put the engine in a derate.
Each visit is written up in a digital vehicle inspection with photos, so the owner or dispatcher sees what the technician saw.
Bringing a San Antonio tractor to the Brooksville heavy bays
Some jobs need a bay: engine overhauls, injector and turbocharger work, aftertreatment repairs that go past a sensor, clutches and air brake jobs that call for pulling wheels. Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, Volvo, International and Western Star trucks are all regulars, with Cummins, Detroit, Volvo and Caterpillar engines, and RDI Power is Caterpillar certified. Air brake work covers compressors, dryers, valves, chambers, slack adjusters, drums and linings; see our brake systems page.
The tow from central San Antonio runs about 24 road miles. We help plan it so the bay is ready when the truck arrives, and a diagnosis done on site carries straight into the shop. Repairs carry a 3-year, 36,000-mile labor warranty, or the 2-year, 24,000-mile RDI Fleet warranty for fleet accounts, which also get roadside help 24/7.
