Construction followed population in FishHawk. The community went from fewer than 2,000 residents in 2000 to 24,625 in 2020, the school district opened new schools to keep up, and building has been a constant. For contractors and service companies that run trucks around FishHawk Ranch, that pace means trucks that work hard and cannot be spared. Keeping them working is the job of RDI Fleet, the fleet program at RDI Power: a written plan plus scheduled service at the yard, done by technicians who drive down from our Brooksville shop.
Contractor fleets and job-site trucks around FishHawk
A contractor’s fleet is rarely uniform. It might be crew pickups, a dump truck or two, a flatbed and a couple of equipment trailers. RDI Fleet covers all of it, light, medium and heavy duty, trailers and buses included, with a plan built around your operation, budget, fleet size and fleet type. Our construction page describes the job-site trucks we service most.
Job-site trucks have their own wear points. Dust loads air filters. Idling with the PTO engaged adds engine hours without miles. Short moves between sites keep exhaust aftertreatment from getting hot enough to clean itself. Rough ground works suspensions and steering components. A plan for those trucks checks each of those on every visit.
Arterial-only routes from Fish Hawk
No interstate or US highway runs through FishHawk. Trucks leave on local arterials such as Boyette Road on the south side and Lithia Pinecrest Road heading north toward SR 60, and that means more traffic signals, more turns and more braking per mile than a highway route. The odometer undercounts that kind of wear.
So the plan sets PM on engine hours and the calendar, with mileage as a backstop. Brake linings are measured at every visit. Fault codes are scanned before they turn into a derate on a job site. For pickups, the oil life monitor and manufacturer schedule are the starting point, tightened for towing and long idling.
What a yard visit covers for Fish Hawk trucks
Technicians arrive with diagnostic software, filters, fluids and tools for common repairs, and several units can be serviced on the same visit. Each truck gets fresh oil and a new oil filter, new fuel filters and a drained water separator, an air filter and intake check, a look at belts, hoses and coolant, brake measurements, a tire check, chassis grease, a battery load test and a code scan. On air brake trucks they check adjustment and listen for leaks. Trailers get brakes, lights, wiring, bearings and tires on their own schedule.
Visits are booked for times when the trucks are sitting anyway, so a crew does not lose its truck for the morning.
Hot afternoons on FishHawk job sites
A dump truck idling on a sunny site in July, with dust drifting through the radiator, is a cooling system failure waiting for a reason. Radiator fins pack with dirt, fan clutches wear, hoses soften and coolant loses its protection over time. On an RDI Fleet plan, every visit includes a look at the radiator face, hose condition, belt wear and coolant level, and a full cooling system service is scheduled ahead of the hottest months instead of after the first overheat. A truck that runs cool on a hot site keeps its engine, and its crew keeps working.
Setting up a Fish Hawk plan
Getting started takes three steps. First we talk through the trucks, the trailers and the problems you are tired of. Then a technician visits the yard and records every unit: its VIN, its engine, the miles or hours on it and the shape it is in. Last, we assign intervals by class and send you a calendar. Annual DOT inspections, where they apply, go on the same calendar so a truck comes out of service once.
Warranty and 24/7 roadside for Fish Hawk fleet units
Every visit produces a digital inspection with photos and notes, and over time those reports build a service history for each FishHawk truck. If a FishHawk unit fails between visits, it jumps the queue. Fleet repairs are warrantied for 2 years or 24,000 miles, and roadside help answers day and night.
