In Valrico, SR 60 is the main road, and FDOT counts about 38,000 vehicles a day on the stretch between South Valrico Road and South Dover Road, roughly 3,306 of them trucks. For a fleet based along that corridor, every unnecessary trip is a trip through that traffic. RDI Fleet, RDI Power’s fleet maintenance program, cuts those trips down: technicians from our Brooksville shop come to your yard on a set schedule, do the preventive maintenance and many repairs on site, and leave a photo record of every unit.
Valrico’s packing-house past and today’s SR 60 corridor
Valrico has always been a working town on a through road. Historically, most people in the Brandon area worked at Valrico’s two orange packing houses. Then, in the mid 1950s, SR 60, still known as Hopewell Road, was connected to Tampa’s Adamo Drive, and the community found itself on a major thoroughfare between Tampa and Bartow. The road is far busier now, but one principle holds: when the main road is crowded, a fleet that keeps its trucks healthy at the yard keeps its schedule.
A plan sized to a Valrico fleet
Not every fleet runs dozens of units. If yours is 3 pickups, a dump truck and a trailer, the plan is written for exactly that. If it is a larger mixed yard, the plan scales. Every RDI Fleet plan is built around the operation, the budget and the size and type of fleet, and covers light, medium and heavy duty trucks, trailers and buses.
Setup starts with a conversation about what you run and what keeps breaking, then a walk-around at your yard to inventory each unit: VIN, engine, mileage or hours and condition. Intervals come next, by class:
- Pickups on mileage or the oil life monitor, tightened for towing and idling
- Dump trucks and other vocational units on engine hours, since PTO and job-site idling add wear without adding miles
- Trailers on their own calendar for brakes, bearings, lights and tires
- Trucks that sit between jobs on calendar checks, so batteries and fuel do not deteriorate unnoticed
Yard visits that keep Valrico trucks off SR 60
A technician at your yard can change oil and filters, service fuel filters and water separators, check brakes and tires, inspect belts, hoses and coolant, grease chassis points and scan for fault codes, often on several units in one visit. Visits are booked for the hours your trucks are parked. When a job really needs a bay, such as an engine or transmission repair, we plan the trip to Brooksville with you, with the diagnosis done and parts lined up in advance.
Light duty diesels in Valrico yards
Many smaller fleets lean on diesel pickups, and each engine family has its own weak points. Power Stroke, Duramax and Cummins engines all depend on clean fuel, so fuel filter service and water separator checks are on every visit. Newer diesel pickups rely on glow plugs for starting and on exhaust aftertreatment that suffers on short trips, so the plan watches glow plug circuits, DEF systems and DPF condition rather than waiting for a warning light. Our Power Stroke diesel service page goes deeper on Ford’s engines, and the RDI team includes a Ford specialist with more than 30 years at a Ford dealership.
Inspection dates for Valrico trucks that cross state lines
If a Valrico unit weighs more than 10,001 lb GVWR and works in interstate commerce, federal rules call for an annual inspection, with the report kept for 14 months, and the driver still owes a pre-trip check every day. The plan books each annual on the same visit as that unit’s PM, so it never becomes a scramble when a decal is about to lapse. Anything on a Valrico unit that does not pass is photographed and explained, then repaired once you approve it. See our DOT inspections page for what the inspection covers.
Valrico fleet reports and roadside coverage
Every visit ends with a digital vehicle inspection: photos of each finding and the technician’s notes, sorted into what needs doing now and what can wait. Those reports add up to a service history for each Valrico unit. Fleet accounts get priority service when something breaks between visits, repairs carry a 2-year / 24,000-mile fleet warranty, and roadside help for Valrico fleet units is available 24/7.
The RDI Fleet maintenance page lays out the complete program that Valrico plans are built from. For yards a few miles west on SR 60, see Brandon fleet maintenance. Call (352) 433-3800 and tell us what your Valrico yard runs.
