Valrico grew up along a single road. SR 60, once called Hopewell Road, links it 14 miles west to Tampa and 26 miles east to Bartow, and when it was connected to Tampa’s Adamo Drive in the mid 1950s, Valrico found itself on a major thoroughfare and started growing again. The 2020 census counted 37,895 people, and SR 60 is still the spine. RDI Power has no location in Valrico. When a diesel stops here, a mobile technician comes out from our Brooksville shop with diagnostic tools and the equipment to repair it where it sits.
SR 60 between Valrico Road and Dover Road
FDOT’s 2025 inventory counts about 38,000 vehicles a day on SR 60 between South Valrico Road and South Dover Road, and about 3,306 of them are trucks, 8.7% of the total. That is a lot of traffic for a disabled truck to sit beside. If the truck still moves, get it into a parking lot or a side street before you stop; a technician can do far better work on pavement away from the lanes. If it does not move, hazards on, triangles out and stay on the side away from traffic.
On a busy suburban arterial, the failures that strand a truck often come down to heat or electrical trouble: a cooling system that cannot keep up at a long light, a charging system that finally quits, a sensor fault that drops the engine into derate as you pull away from a signal.
East toward Hopewell and Plant City
East of town, SR 60 continues toward Hopewell, where FDOT lists a static weigh station, and on to Bartow. Plant City sits about 10 miles northeast. Trucks heading out of Valrico on those routes leave the suburban traffic behind, but a problem that started in town often shows up there, on an open stretch with fewer places to pull off. When you call from SR 60 east of Valrico, tell us how far you are from the last cross road you passed and which way you were going.
Yards and job sites around Valrico
Mobile service works best where there is room. In Valrico that means business lots, contractor and fleet yards, job sites and the roadside. If your truck quit somewhere else, call anyway, and we will tell you straight what makes sense, whether that is a tow to Brooksville or another option.
Getting the diagnosis right in Valrico
The technician’s first job is to find the cause, not to start replacing parts. That means reading codes and live data, then testing the circuit or component the codes point to. Our technicians carry Ford IDS for Power Stroke trucks, WiTECH for Ram and heavy duty software for medium and heavy trucks, and RDI Power’s team is ASE certified. A warning light by itself says very little; our check engine light page explains what goes into a real diagnosis.
A short list of Valrico on-site repairs
- Batteries, terminals and cables
- Starters and alternators
- Serpentine belts and tensioners
- Coolant hoses and clamps
- Fuel filters and water separators
- Sensors, connectors and damaged wiring
- Air lines and brake chambers on heavy trucks
Every repair is recorded on a digital inspection with photos, so the Valrico owner or fleet manager sees what the technician saw. Labor done on a Valrico roadside or job site carries RDI Power’s 3-year / 36,000-mile warranty.
What to tell us when you call from Valrico
A good first call shortens the whole job. Have these ready:
- Where the truck is: SR 60 and the nearest cross road, or the name and address of the lot, yard or job site
- Year, make, model and engine, plus the unit number if it belongs to a fleet
- What happened in the minutes before it stopped, and any noises, smoke or smells
- The warning lights or messages on the dash, ideally in a photo
- Whether it is loaded and whether it is parked somewhere safe
With that, the technician can bring the most likely parts on the first trip.
When the Valrico job needs the Brooksville shop
An internal engine problem, a transmission that has to come out or anything needing a lift is shop work. The technician confirms the failure and explains it, and we plan the trip to Brooksville with you so the truck arrives with a diagnosis already done.
