Medulla sits in the middle of 2 very different Polk County economies. North of it, Lakeland runs on distribution and warehousing. South, along SR 37, Mulberry’s economy is dominated by phosphate mining, with Mosaic’s Nichols mine about 2 miles east of that city. A fleet based in Medulla can find work in either direction. RDI Fleet, the fleet program from RDI Power, plans maintenance for trucks like that, at your yard, with technicians who come out from our Brooksville shop.
North to Lakeland, south to Mulberry: planning Medulla routes
The direction your trucks run shapes the plan more than the address they park at. A pickup or van making service calls north into Lakeland collects city miles, short trips and idle time. If other trucks haul heavier loads on shorter runs south along SR 37 toward Mulberry, they are doing different work. Those 2 duty cycles wear brakes, tires, cooling systems and aftertreatment at different rates, and a plan that treats them alike either wastes money or misses problems.
We start from the manufacturer’s schedule and adjust each unit for how it actually works, using miles where trucks rack up distance and engine hours where they idle or run equipment.
What goes into a Medulla RDI Fleet plan
- The unit list. Each truck’s year, make and engine, its odometer or hour reading, and the work it is used for.
- The calendar. PM dates, annual DOT inspections for the units that need them, and the days each truck can be spared.
- The budget. What needs attention now, what can be planned for later and what to keep an eye on.
- The paperwork. A digital vehicle inspection on every visit, with photos and plain notes, that builds into a service history for each truck.
Fleet accounts also get priority service, so when a unit breaks between visits, it does not wait at the back of the line.
Service at Medulla yards
There is no RDI Power shop in Polk County. For Medulla fleets, that means the maintenance comes to you: technicians drive out from Brooksville on scheduled dates and work through whichever units are due, at the yard where they park. Jobs that need a lift, a teardown or a transmission rebuild go to the Brooksville bays, and we plan that trip with you so it lands when the truck is least needed. The yard diagnosis travels with the truck, so the Brooksville bay starts on the repair, not on a second round of testing.
A PM visit at a Medulla yard
On a scheduled visit, the technician works through each unit that is due. That means engine oil and filter, fuel filters and the water separator, the air filter, coolant level and condition, belts and hoses, brake linings and, on air-brake trucks, adjustment and leak checks. Tires, steering, suspension, lights and batteries are inspected, and a scan picks up stored and pending fault codes. Anything worn but not urgent is photographed and added to the plan, so it gets fixed at the next visit instead of failing on Florida Avenue.
Pickups and light trucks in a Medulla fleet
If your Medulla fleet is mostly diesel pickups and vans, the plan fits them too. Ford, Ram, GM and Nissan Titan XD diesels and Sprinter vans follow the manufacturer’s schedule or oil life monitor, shortened when the work includes heavy towing, long idling or short trips. Our technicians carry Ford IDS and WiTECH for dealer-level diagnosis on Ford and Ram trucks. Any unit with a GVWR of 10,001 pounds or more used in interstate commerce also needs its annual DOT inspection, and the plan books it alongside PM so the report, which must be kept for 14 months, is never a scramble.
Medulla fleet records, warranty and roadside
Repairs done under the fleet account are backed by RDI Fleet’s 2-year / 24,000-mile warranty. When a fleet truck stops on Florida Avenue or the Polk Parkway outside business hours, fleet customers have 24/7 roadside assistance through the same number, (352) 433-3800. The inspection photos from past visits mean the technician already knows the truck.
