Lealman is unincorporated, but it is not all houses. In 2015 Pinellas County made it the first Community Redevelopment Area in unincorporated Pinellas, and the plan behind that designation describes an industrial base of warehouse, distribution and manufacturing. Joe’s Creek Industrial District, in the southeast part of the community near 34th Street/US 19 and the CSX tracks, held about 162 acres of Industrial Limited land in the 2016 plan, and the area’s zoning even carries a small M-2 pocket for heavy industry. Distribution yards run on trucks, and when one of them stops, RDI Power’s mobile technicians come to it from Brooksville.
Joe’s Creek yards and the 34th Street corridor
The Lealman CRA plan places the industrial district along the southern part of 34th Street/US 19, beside the CSX tracks, and singles out the blocks around 34th Street North and 44th Avenue North for industrial redevelopment. A yard call from that district might be a tractor that will not build air at the dock, a box truck that will not crank after a weekend or a trailer whose lights died before a run.
A yard is a good place for a repair. Tell us the business name, the gate to use and who will meet the technician. Have the keys ready, and if the unit is backed into a dock, say whether it can be pulled forward so the technician can reach the engine and the air system.
I-275 on Lealman’s east edge
I-275 forms the eastern boundary of the redevelopment area, and FDOT’s 2025 inventory counts about 14,040 trucks a day on it near Lealman, 7.8% of roughly 180,000 vehicles. Our technicians use the same interstate to get here, coming south from Brooksville on the Suncoast Parkway and the Veterans Expressway to I-275.
A breakdown on the interstate is a safety problem first. Get the truck onto the shoulder as far as it will go, set out triangles and wait well clear of the traffic side. When you call, give your direction, the nearest exit or mile marker and whether you can still roll to an exit.
Lealman’s arterials: 49th Street, 54th Avenue and 34th Street
The CRA plan names 3 primary signalized arterials: 49th Street North, 54th Avenue North and 34th Street/US 19. SR 694 adds about 6,063 trucks a day near Lealman at an 8.6% share, and US 19 about 5,609. If a truck stops on one of them, the nearest signal is the cleanest reference point, and the CSX line, which runs diagonally through Lealman from downtown St. Petersburg toward Clearwater, is another. Say which side of the tracks you are on.
Tractor faults a Lealman yard visit can clear
Heavy trucks bring their own set of on-site repairs. Before replacing anything, the technician reads the truck’s fault codes and live data with heavy duty diagnostic software and confirms the failure. RDI Power is Caterpillar certified, and our technicians work on Cummins, Detroit, Volvo and Cat engines in Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, International and Volvo tractors. At the yard they can often handle:
- Air system leaks. Lines, fittings, gladhand seals, brake chambers and slack adjusters.
- No-starts. Batteries, cables, ground connections and starters.
- Charging faults. Alternators, belts and wiring.
- Cooling leaks. Hoses, clamps and accessible fittings.
- Fuel problems. Filters, water separators and air in the system.
- Aftertreatment derates. Sensors, wiring and DEF faults, with a parked regeneration where the system allows.
- Trailer electrical. Lighting circuits, plugs and harness repairs, covered further on our trailer repair page.
Each job is written up as a digital inspection with photos and notes, so a dispatcher or owner who was not at the dock sees what failed and what was done.
When a Lealman job moves to Donto Way
Some failures need a bay: internal engine damage, a transmission that has to come out, an alignment or anything that needs the truck on a lift. When a Lealman diagnosis lands there, the technician explains what failed and why, and we plan the trip with you, including when the unit can be spared from the yard and how it reaches Brooksville. The fault is already confirmed when it arrives, so the bay time goes into the fix.
Fleet roadside and weekday calls for Lealman
RDI Fleet accounts get 24/7 roadside assistance, so a fleet tractor that quits at a Joe’s Creek dock on a Saturday night is still covered at (352) 433-3800. Lealman operators without a fleet account can call that number Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Lealman is part of the wider on-site program described on our mobile diesel repair page. Trucks working south toward downtown are covered on our St. Petersburg mobile diesel repair page, and Lealman yards that want maintenance on a schedule can read about RDI Fleet in Lealman.
