University is the Census name for the community that surrounds the University of Central Florida, about 15 miles east of downtown Orlando, with SR 50 along its southern edge. It is a busy place for its size. UCF enrolled 70,674 students in fall 2025 and employed 13,708 staff on a 1,415-acre main campus along Alafaya Trail, and the Central Florida Research Park, which lies inside the CDP, covers 1,027 acres with about 10,000 employees. When a diesel stops anywhere in it, RDI Power’s mobile service sends a technician from our Brooksville shop to diagnose and repair it where it sits.
Alafaya Trail, Challenger Parkway and SR-417 Exit 37
These are the roads that matter for a University breakdown call:
- Alafaya Trail (SR-434). It runs south from Oviedo past University Boulevard to its end at SR 50. FDOT counts about 3,840 trucks a day between University Boulevard and McCulloch Road, 9.6% of traffic. Give the cross street and direction.
- Challenger Parkway. SR-408 ends at SR 50 at Exit 23 and continues as Challenger Parkway through the southern part of the research park to Alafaya Trail.
- SR-417 at Exit 37. The University Boulevard interchange serves UCF. On the beltway, name the direction and the nearest mile marker.
- SR 50. About 3,358 trucks a day near the community. A business sign or the nearest intersection pins it down.
Campus construction and job-site repairs near UCF
Construction has been steady around the university. Multimillion-dollar renovations of campus science buildings have been scheduled through 2026, and work began in 2024 on converting part of the Quadrangle business park to student housing. When a dump truck, service truck or equipment hauler goes down on a job like that, a mobile visit keeps it on site.
What the technician needs:
- Firm, level ground with room to walk around the truck and park the service truck beside it. Fresh fill or soft sand after a rain is not a safe base.
- A site contact who can get the technician through the gate and explain the site’s safety rules.
- The keys and the story. What the truck did before it quit, which lights came on and whether it was loaded.
Our construction page covers the vocational trucks we work on, from dump trucks to mixers.
Repairs that wrap up on site in University
Diagnosis first, then the repair. Technicians connect with Ford IDS on Power Stroke trucks, WiTECH on Ram and heavy-duty software for Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar and Volvo engines, then test the suspect part before replacing it. Common on-site fixes include batteries and starters, alternators and belts, coolant hoses, fuel filters and air in the fuel, sensors and wiring behind a derate, and air leaks on heavy trucks. Each visit is written up as a digital vehicle inspection with photos and the technician’s notes.
Why a mobile visit beats a tow near UCF
A tow is only part of what a breakdown costs. Pulling a truck off a campus job means a wrecker, someone taken off the work to deal with it, and a truck waiting in a shop line far from the site. When the failure is a battery, a belt, a sensor or a fuel filter, a technician on site removes all of that: the truck gets fixed where it works, and the crew keeps going. When the failure is bigger, the on-site diagnosis still saves a step, because the truck heads to the shop with a known problem and the parts already ordered.
Military discount for University and research park personnel
The research park hosts military simulation commands, including NAWCTSD and the Army’s PEO STRI. If you serve or have served, RDI Power’s 10% discount for active and veteran military applies to your diesel, as it does for police and fire.
When a University repair needs the Brooksville shop
Engine overhauls, transmission rebuilds and anything needing a lift are done in our Brooksville bays, not on a campus job site. The technician explains the failure, and we plan the timing and the move with you, including how to keep the project moving while the truck is out. The site diagnosis goes along, so the shop starts with the answer instead of the question.
Fleet accounts have roadside help any time, day or night. Others can call (352) 433-3800 weekdays from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We will not name an arrival time we cannot keep, but we will tell you honestly when a technician can reach Alafaya Trail or your site. On-site labor carries the same 3-year / 36,000-mile warranty as shop work, and every visit ends with photos and notes in a digital vehicle inspection.
For planned service, see fleet maintenance in University. Our mobile diesel repair page covers what a technician can do on site, and the neighborhood to the southwest has its own page for mobile diesel repair in Union Park.
