Floral City is small, but 2 truck roads meet in it. US-41 carries north-south traffic between Inverness and Brooksville, and CR-48 runs east out of town, crosses the Withlacoochee River and continues toward Bushnell, where it meets I-75 at Exit 314. RDI Power repairs the tractors and heavy trucks that use those roads in our heavy-duty bays at 1665 Donto Way, about 15 miles south.
Heavy trucks between US-41 and I-75 Exit 314 on CR-48
From the middle of Floral City, a loaded rig has 2 ways to reach the interstate system: south on US-41 toward Brooksville, or east on CR-48 through farmland and wooded wetlands to the river bridge and on to the Bushnell interchange. CR-48 in particular crosses open country between town and the river. That matters when something goes wrong, because a truck that loses air pressure or derates out there is miles from the nearest town. For a stopped truck, see our Floral City mobile diesel repair page for what to tell us and what can be fixed where the truck sits.
Air brake and aftertreatment work for rigs on US-41
The repairs that keep heavy trucks on these roads fall into a few groups.
Air systems. Slow pressure build, a compressor that cycles too often, a dryer that spits water and audible leaks with the system charged. We test compressor output and governor settings, trace leaks, and check chambers and slack adjusters for stroke.
Aftertreatment. Particulate filters, DEF dosing, NOx sensors and EGR valves account for many derates on newer Cummins, Detroit and Volvo engines. The fix starts with finding why the system failed, not just clearing the code: a leaking injector or a boost leak upstream will load a new filter as quickly as the old one.
Cooling. Radiators, charge air coolers, fan clutches and water pumps. A heavy engine that runs hot at low speed with a full load usually has an airflow problem before it has a coolant problem.
Engines. Fuel injection with Alliant Power and Bosch diesel components, turbochargers, head gaskets and full overhauls. RDI Power is Caterpillar certified, so older Cat engines, the 3406 among them, are work we take on rather than refer out.
Electrical. Charging and starting problems, damaged wiring at the frame rails, and data link faults that leave modules unable to talk to each other.
Drivetrain. Clutch adjustment and replacement on manual tractors, driveshaft U-joints and carrier bearings, and gear oil leaks at the transmission and differentials.
The makes are the usual mix on Florida roads: Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, Volvo, International and Western Star.
Towing a tractor 15 miles from Floral City to Donto Way
If the truck cannot be fixed where it stopped, the tow is short by Citrus County standards. Tell the wrecker operator the make, whether it is coupled to a loaded trailer, and whether the driveshaft needs to come out. Call us before the truck is hooked up, so the bay and the diagnosis plan are ready when it rolls in.
At the shop, the truck gets codes, live data and hands-on testing, then a digital inspection with photos covering the repair and the condition of brakes, tires and suspension. If the annual inspection is due soon, it can be done during the same visit; our Floral City DOT inspections page explains how. Labor carries our 36,000-mile, 3-year warranty, and the full heavy scope is on our semi and heavy-duty truck repair page. For trucks that work the far end of CR-48, the Bushnell semi truck repair page covers the I-75 side.
Call (352) 433-3800 and tell us where the truck is and what it did before it stopped.
