Heavy trucks have plenty of reasons to pass through Ridge Manor. I-75 Exit 301, Hernando County’s only interchange on the interstate, is about 3 miles west, and in 2019 county commissioners approved a RaceTrac there with fueling for trucks as well as cars. Ridge Manor is also home to a Walmart distribution center of roughly 1.6 million square feet, which the county counts among its top employers. East of US 301, FDOT’s SR 50 widening, open on all lanes since December 5, 2025, added 2 bridges over the CSX railroad and new access for a mining business. RDI Power repairs the tractors, dump trucks and vocational rigs that use these roads, at our shop on Donto Way, about 17 road miles west of central Ridge Manor.
Exit 301, US 301 and SR 50 freight around Ridge Manor
Ridge Manor’s highways each carry a different kind of heavy truck work. SR 50 links I-75 to US 301 and, past the new CSX bridges, the Sumter County line. US 301 (Treiman Boulevard) runs north toward Bushnell and south toward Dade City alongside the CSX Wildwood Subdivision, and FDOT is widening it, with a new Withlacoochee River bridge, through about 2028. US 98 (McKethan Road) heads south toward Dade City. Whether a truck is finishing a long interstate leg, making short regional runs or shuttling to a work zone, these roads wear out different parts on each.
Air brakes and clutches in the Treiman Boulevard work zones
Construction traffic means stop, creep and go, and that falls hardest on the foundation brakes and the air system. Linings and drums wear faster, slack adjusters need watching, and the compressor and air dryer cycle more. An automatic slack adjuster that keeps needing manual adjustment usually means the cam bushings or the adjuster itself are wearing out. On manual-transmission trucks, constant creeping in low gears wears clutches and release bearings. For more on compressors, dryers and foundation brakes, see air brake and brake system repair.
Aftertreatment and engine work for Ridge Manor tractors
Slow, heavy work keeps exhaust temperatures down, so the DPF loads faster than it can regenerate and EGR parts collect soot. A truck that keeps derating usually has a cause upstream, such as a leaking injector, a stuck EGR valve or oil getting past turbo seals, and we look for it instead of forcing another regen. Engine work ranges from wiring and sensor faults to EGR coolers, head gaskets and in-frame overhauls on Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit, Volvo and PACCAR engines. RDI Power is Caterpillar certified; our article on what to look for during a Cat engine overhaul explains how we judge one. Trailers can come in alongside the tractor, and every unit leaves with a photo inspection of its brakes, tires and suspension.
Moving a disabled rig from Ridge Manor to Donto Way
A tractor that can drive safely takes SR 50 west across the interstate and through Hill ’n Dale into Brooksville. One that cannot should not be towed on a guess: we can send a technician first, who may repair it on the spot and will at least confirm what failed, and we coordinate the tow when the shop is the answer. Repairs carry a 3-year, 36,000-mile labor warranty, or 2 years and 24,000 miles under RDI Fleet. For operations with several rigs, the Ridge Manor fleet maintenance page covers scheduled service, and our heavy-duty truck repair page lists everything else we do for big trucks. Rigs based west of the interstate have their own page: Hill ’n Dale semi truck repair.
