In October 2024 the Withlacoochee River flooded Ridge Manor for days after Hurricane Milton, US 301 closed at SR 50, and traffic detoured through the community. Floodwater and diesel trucks do not mix, and the damage does not always show up right away. RDI Power repairs Ford Super Duty, Ram, Chevrolet and GMC heavy-duty pickups, chassis cabs, the Nissan Titan XD and Sprinter vans at our shop on Donto Way, about 17 road miles from central Ridge Manor, and flood exposure is one of the things we look for.
What floodwater does inside a Ridge Manor diesel
Water gets into a truck in more places than the cab:
- The intake. If water reaches the air filter while the engine runs or cranks, it can be drawn into the cylinders. Water does not compress, and a hydrolocked engine can bend rods. Any truck that sat in deep water should be inspected before it is started.
- Fuel. Water in the tank shows up at the separator. High-pressure injection parts have almost no tolerance for it, so the separator, filters and, if needed, the tank get attention first.
- Axles, transfer case and transmission. Vents let water in when a hot axle is plunged into cool water. Milky fluid in a differential means it needs draining and inspecting, along with its bearings.
- Wheel bearings and brakes. Grease washes out and rotors rust.
- Electrical. Starters, alternators, connectors and modules can work for weeks, then fail as corrosion sets in. Intermittent warning lights after a flood deserve a look at the wiring, not just a code clear.
Every finding goes on the digital inspection with photos, which also helps if an insurance adjuster wants to see the damage.
Ridge Manor work zones on US 301 and SR 50
Ridge Manor is also a construction corridor. FDOT is widening US 301 (Treiman Boulevard) to 4 divided lanes, with a new Withlacoochee River bridge, through an estimated finish in fall 2028, and SR 50 has been widened through the community as well. Months of lane shifts, rough transitions and stop-and-go traffic wear on a pickup’s front end. Tie rod ends, ball joints and, on solid-axle 4x4 trucks, the track bar take the hits, and a worn part shows up as wander, a pull or uneven tire wear. Those parts get replaced before an alignment is set; our truck wheel alignment page explains why the order matters.
Everyday Ridge Manor pickup faults
Not every Ridge Manor truck has a flood or work-zone story. The everyday faults still apply: long cranking from weak glow plugs on Power Stroke and Duramax engines or a faulty intake heater on a Cummins, regens that come too often, black smoke from a boost leak or a sticking turbo vane, and coolant that disappears with no puddle. Ford trucks are diagnosed with Ford IDS and Rams with WiTECH, and the Ford specialist here spent more than 30 years at a Ford dealership. Our light duty diesel repair page covers each engine.
Getting a Ridge Manor pickup to Donto Way
The route runs up US 98 (McKethan Road) to Cortez Boulevard and west past Exit 301 into Brooksville, roughly 26 minutes. A truck that drives normally with a steady check engine light can make it. A flood-exposed truck that has not been checked, or one that is derating, overheating or losing oil pressure, should not; a technician can come to it instead, as our Ridge Manor diesel repair page explains. Repairs carry RDI Power’s 3-year, 36,000-mile labor warranty. Owners closer to Brooksville along the same highway can read Hill ’n Dale truck repair.
