Ask 3 shops what RV repair means and you will get 3 answers. At RDI Power it means the running gear of a diesel pusher: the engine, the transmission, the chassis, the air brakes and the suspension. Lecanto owners bring coaches to our shop at 1665 Donto Way in Brooksville, about 23 road miles from the middle of Lecanto. Our work stays on the parts of the coach that make it go, stop and ride.

Air brakes on a Lecanto diesel pusher

Most diesel pushers stop on air, and the system has more parts than many owners realize. The compressor builds pressure, the governor tells it when to stop, the air dryer pulls moisture out before it reaches the tanks, and the chambers and slack adjusters turn that air into braking force at each wheel. Any weak link shows up as slow build-up after a start, a compressor that never seems to rest, or a low-air warning that comes on sooner than it should.

Moisture is the quiet enemy. A dryer cartridge past its service life lets water into the tanks, where it can reach valves and, in time, corrode them from the inside. A brake check here measures build-up time and governor cut-out, listens for leaks with the system charged, and checks chamber stroke at every wheel.

Air suspension and ride height for Lecanto coaches

The same air supply usually feeds the suspension. Air bags carry the coach, height control valves keep it level as the load shifts, and shocks control the bounce. A coach that sits low on one corner after a night parked, rides harsh, or leans in turns has a leak, a valve problem or worn shocks. We air the system up, find the leak or the valve that will not hold, and check ride height against spec, because a coach sitting at the wrong height also changes its alignment; our Lecanto truck alignment page explains why that matters for tire wear.

Engine and Allison checks before leaving Lecanto

Lecanto is a convenient place to start a trip. SR-44 runs 7 miles to Crystal River and 10 to Inverness, and the Suncoast Parkway’s Citrus County extension now ties into SR-44 here. Before a long run, the rear engine deserves attention: debris packed into the radiator and charge air cooler, a boost leak at a charge air hose clamp, and belts and coolant hoses aging in a hot engine bay. Most pushers carry a Cummins or Caterpillar engine, and RDI Power is Caterpillar certified.

The Allison behind it starts with fluid level and condition, then stored codes, then a road test if there is a shift complaint. Our RV maintenance checklist for long-distance travel covers the owner’s side of the pre-trip list.

Bringing a coach from Lecanto to Brooksville

A healthy coach makes the trip south on CR-491, then US-98 and Cobb Road. Call (352) 433-3800 before you leave, so we can plan bay space for the coach’s length and height. A coach with an air pressure warning, a coolant leak or a transmission in limp mode should not make 23 miles on hope. A mobile technician may be able to diagnose it at a campground or the roadside, and if it needs the shop, we help plan a heavy tow; tell the tow company it is a rear-engine diesel pusher so the driveline is handled correctly.

Every coach gets a photo-documented digital inspection, and the labor is backed for 3 years or 36,000 miles. See RV service and repair for the full scope of our motorhome work, and owners to the north and east can read our Citrus Hills RV repair page.

I'm so happy with the service I received from RDI Power. I was told by another shop that I had a transmission leak in my diesel truck. Not only did the staff at RDI Power correctly diagnose my issue (which was not a leak), they were able to resolve the issue...

These guys are awesome, from Joe the service writer to the owners and all the folks in between. They communicated every step of the way and researched alternatives to my myriad of issues. Kudos all around.

Lecanto questions

How long does it take to bring a diesel pusher from Lecanto to your shop?
From central Lecanto it is about 23 road miles, roughly 40 minutes in a car and somewhat longer in a coach. Call ahead so a bay is ready for its length and height.
My coach leans to one side after sitting overnight in Lecanto. Is that the air suspension?
Usually. A bag, line or fitting that leaks down overnight, or a height control valve that will not hold, lets one corner settle. We find the leak with the system aired up before replacing anything.
What air brake checks should a Lecanto motorhome get before a long trip?
Compressor build-up time, governor cut-out, the air dryer, leaks with the system charged, chamber stroke and the slack adjusters. Automatic slack adjusters that keep needing manual adjustment point to a deeper fault, and we chase that fault instead of just adjusting them.
