For heavy trucks, the road to know in Quail Ridge is Hays Road. It runs north from SR 52 through the community toward the North Suncoast Industrial Park and the county’s resource recovery complex at 14230 Hays Road. RDI Power repairs tractors and heavy straight trucks at our Brooksville heavy bays, about 22 road miles north by the Suncoast Parkway, and sends mobile technicians to trucks that cannot make the trip.
Hays Road north of Quail Ridge: the plant and the landfills
The complex at the north end of Hays Road, just over the line in Shady Hills, is a working industrial site. Pasco County’s West Pasco Resource Recovery Facility there is a mass burn waste-to-energy plant operated by Covanta. It was rated at 1,050 tons a day, was expected to burn about 440,000 tons of waste in 2023, and in 2023 the county approved a fourth boiler to raise capacity to 1,565 tons a day. Alongside the plant are a 20-acre solid waste landfill, a 50-acre ash monofill and a construction and demolition debris landfill.
Loaded crawls and long waits on Quail Ridge truck roads
If your trucks haul to a plant or a landfill, their days are built from loaded crawls, stops and waits in line. Each loaded stop heats drums and linings and keeps the compressor and air dryer cycling, so brake adjustment that drifts between visits is a sign of worn cam bushings or a tired adjuster, not something to keep backing off. Long idles and slow speeds keep exhaust temperatures too low for the DPF to clean itself, and a truck that regenerates constantly is telling you something upstream needs a look. Debris packs radiators and charge air coolers, and rough ground is hard on tires, wheels, springs and suspension bushings. Catching those on a scheduled visit costs far less than finding them with a load on.
SR 52 on both sides of Exit 27
Not every Quail Ridge truck stays on Hays Road. West of the Parkway, SR 52 runs 6 lanes toward Moon Lake Road; east of it, 4 lanes toward Fivay Junction and Shady Hills Road. Highway legs bring their own problems, from injectors and turbochargers to cooling systems working hard in a Florida summer. RDI Power is Caterpillar certified, and our technicians handle Cummins, Detroit, Volvo and Caterpillar engines in Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, Volvo, International and Western Star trucks. Our semi and heavy-duty truck repair page covers air brakes, aftertreatment, drivetrain and electrical work in depth.
Getting a heavy truck from Quail Ridge to Brooksville
A disabled tractor should not attempt the toll road. Call first: a mobile technician can often diagnose the truck where it stopped and repair air leaks, sensors, wiring and fuel delivery faults there, and if it needs a lift, we coordinate the tow. RDI Fleet accounts have 24/7 roadside assistance; others can call (352) 433-3800 on weekdays from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Every heavy truck leaves with a digital inspection of its brakes, tires and suspension. Operators running several trucks can read about fleet maintenance in Quail Ridge, and trucks based at the north end of Hays Road are covered on our Shady Hills semi truck repair page.
