At River Ridge, a signed truck route and a new toll-road connector meet. County Road 587 now runs on De Cubellis Road, and where it meets Ridge Road near the River Ridge development, the county’s signed truck route turns west along Ridge Road toward Little Road. Head east from the same junction instead and the Ridge Road Extension takes you to Suncoast Parkway Exit 25. RDI Power repairs the tractors, dump trucks and heavy straight trucks that stop along either road, with a mobile technician on site or in our heavy bays in Brooksville, about 29 road miles from the middle of River Ridge.
Ridge Road and the CR 587 truck route through River Ridge
The pieces of this network came together over a few years. CR 587 was realigned onto De Cubellis Road. The signed truck route for CR 587 follows Ridge Road west and then Little Road south, and farther west, about 2.5 miles east of Port Richey at Jasmine Estates, Ridge Road becomes a 4-lane commercial arterial. To the east, the Ridge Road Extension opened its first 0.4 miles to Town Center Road in August 2020, carried 2-way traffic to the Parkway by the last day of 2021, and Exit 25 opened fully on March 17, 2022.
For a heavy truck, that means 2 very different breakdown settings within a short distance of each other: a 4-lane commercial arterial to the west, and a newer connector road and toll interchange to the east.
A heavy truck stopped on the Ridge Road Extension or at Exit 25
A stopped tractor on a ramp or a connector road needs distance from traffic before anything else. Pull as far off the travel lane as the shoulder allows, set the parking brakes, turn on the hazards and put out the triangles. Then call (352) 433-3800 and give us the landmark: Exit 25 and which ramp, Town Center Road, or the Pasco-Hernando State College West Campus at 10230 Ridge Road.
At the roadside, the technician’s first moves are a scan and a slow walk around the rig. Common fixes that keep a heavy truck off a wrecker:
- Air system leaks at lines, fittings, glad hands or a chamber
- A charging fault, a dead battery bank or a failed starter
- A derate traced to a sensor, a connector or a DEF system fault
- A plugged fuel filter or air in the fuel system
How on-site service works in detail is on our River Ridge mobile diesel repair page.
Towing a tractor 29 miles from River Ridge to the heavy bays
Some failures need a lift and a full set of heavy tools. When that is the answer, the question becomes how to move the truck about 29 road miles to Donto Way: east on the Ridge Road Extension, north on the Parkway and east on SR-50. A loaded tractor and trailer are a bigger job than a bobtail, so tell the wrecker company the configuration and weight up front, and if the trailer can be dropped and recovered separately, that often simplifies the tow.
Our technician’s on-site findings travel with the truck. By the time it reaches the bay, we know what failed and, often, which parts to have on the shelf.
Engines, air brakes and aftertreatment for tractors near River Ridge
Diagnosis through full overhauls happens in the Brooksville bays, along with injector and turbocharger work, DPF, DEF and EGR repairs, cooling and electrical faults, and complete air brake service. Whether the badge says Western Star, Mack, Volvo, International, Freightliner, Kenworth or Peterbilt, and whether the engine is a Detroit, a Cummins, a Volvo or a Caterpillar, the approach stays the same: prove the failure, then fix it. We hold Caterpillar certification, and our article on 5 things to look for during a Cat engine overhaul explains what a proper overhaul includes.
Each heavy unit leaves with a photo-documented digital inspection covering brakes, tires, suspension and leaks, not only the repair on the work order. For customers outside the fleet program, RDI Power warrants the labor for 3 years / 36,000 miles; fleet repairs carry 2 years / 24,000 miles, plus round-the-clock roadside coverage for the account. Heavy work in full is described under semi and heavy-duty truck repair, and the Moon Lake semi truck repair page describes the 2-lane stretch of CR 587 just north.
