For a River Ridge pickup, the road north changed at the end of 2021. The Ridge Road Extension now runs from De Cubellis Road straight to the Suncoast Parkway, and Exit 25, fully open since March 2022, puts the toll road at the end of it. RDI Power repairs diesel pickups, chassis cabs and vans at our Brooksville shop, roughly 29 road miles from central River Ridge that way, and this page covers the problems that justify the trip and the ones that call for a different plan.
From Ridge Road to Exit 25: the River Ridge pickup’s way north
Turn from De Cubellis Road onto Ridge Road, follow the extension to the Exit 25 ramp, take the toll road north until SR-50, then head east to Donto Way. It takes close to 40 minutes, and most of it is steady highway driving. For a healthy truck that is easy miles. For a truck with a cooling, turbo or transmission problem, sustained highway load is exactly what turns a small fault into a big one, so sort the symptom out first.
Pickup problems that justify the drive from River Ridge
These come up again and again on diesel pickups, and each one has a specific starting point:
- Oil leaks on the 6.7 Power Stroke. Seepage from common gasket and seal locations can get worse with heat and miles; our article on oil leaks on the 6.7L Power Stroke shows where to look. We clean, confirm the source and fix that, not the nearest gasket.
- Turbo complaints. A new whistle, a siren under boost, slow spool or oily residue in the intake. Sometimes the turbo has failed; often a split boot or a leaking charge air cooler makes a good turbo look bad.
- Fuel system faults. Hard starts after sitting, rough idle, a fuel filter warning or a derate after a fill-up. Water in fuel, a weak lift pump or a leaking injector can all be found with pressure and balance tests.
- Regen and EGR trouble. Constant regens, soot-heavy EGR valves and codes that return after clearing point to a cause upstream, which is where we look.
- Cab and body issues on older Fords. Ford trucks from 2003 to 2016 can develop cab mount problems; see does your 2003 to 2016 Ford have bad cab mounts.
Shifting problems often travel with engine complaints on trucks that tow, and our River Ridge transmission repair page explains how we tell them apart.
When a River Ridge truck should stay put
A few signs mean the truck should not start that 29-mile trip: a flashing check engine light, a temperature gauge above normal, an oil pressure warning, a sudden loss of power or a new knock. Call (352) 433-3800 instead. If the truck is at a yard, job site or roadside, a mobile technician can scan it where it sits, and some problems end right there. If it needs the bays, we help line up the tow from River Ridge.
Factory software and dealership veterans for River Ridge owners
Ford trucks connect to Ford IDS and Ram trucks to WiTECH, giving us dealer-level module access and factory test routines in an independent shop. GM Duramax pickups, the Nissan Titan XD with its 5.0 Cummins and Sprinter vans are routine work as well. Behind the diagnosis sit 2 dealership careers: 35 years in Chevrolet service bays for our service advisor, and better than 30 years at a Ford store for our Ford specialist.
You see the evidence before approving anything: a digital inspection with photos of the problem and notes from the technician. Labor on a River Ridge pickup falls under RDI Power’s standard warranty, 3 years / 36,000 miles. The complete pickup scope is on our light duty diesel repair page, and pickup owners a short way up Moon Lake Road can compare notes on the Moon Lake truck repair page.
