Moon Lake is mostly homes: Moon Lake Estates on the east side of Moon Lake Road, Water’s Edge on the west, older lots platted after the dude ranch closed. Its roads are another story. Moon Lake Road (CR 587) carries a signed truck route, SR 52 forms the northern edge, and the Ridge Road Extension at the south end runs straight to the Suncoast Parkway. RDI Power repairs Class 8 tractors, dump trucks and other heavy units that stop on those roads, on site with a mobile technician or in our heavy bays in Brooksville.
Moon Lake Road and its signed truck route
CR 587 is the road every Moon Lake trip starts on, and it changes character as it goes. Its first stretch southwest from SR 52 was widened into a divided 4-lane road by 2017. South of that it is 2 lanes, and in 2024 developer turn-lane work there had traffic taking turns through a single lane, with the county’s widening not slated for funding until 2028. The signed truck route for CR 587 continues south and then follows Ridge Road west and Little Road south. At the bottom of Moon Lake, the Ridge Road Extension heads the other way, 4.2 miles east to a diamond interchange with the Parkway.
For a heavy truck, the 2-lane section is the problem area. There is less room to get a big unit out of the way, and a breakdown there backs up traffic quickly.
A heavy truck stopped on the 2-lane part of Moon Lake Road
Get the truck as far right as it safely goes, turn on the hazards and set out triangles. When you call, name the closest cross street, such as Oconee Boulevard or Lake Drive, or a landmark like Moon Lake Park, and tell us which side of the road you are on, the Moon Lake Estates side to the east or the Water’s Edge side to the west.
A technician who arrives with scan tools and a stocked service truck can often clear the most common stoppages on the spot:
- A cracked air line, a leaking glad hand seal or a failed brake chamber
- A charging failure, a dead battery bank or a starter that quit
- A derate caused by a sensor, a wiring fault or a plugged DEF component
- A fuel filter that clogged or a fuel system that lost its prime

From Moon Lake to the heavy bays by SR 52 and the Parkway
When the job needs a lift, a teardown or an overhaul, the truck comes to us. The usual tow route heads north on Moon Lake Road to SR 52, east to the Suncoast Parkway, north to SR-50 and east into Brooksville, about 27 road miles from the middle of Moon Lake. From the south end, the Ridge Road Extension gets to the Parkway without using the 2-lane stretch at all.
Tell the wrecker company whether a trailer is attached, whether the tractor still has air and what it weighs loaded. If our technician has already diagnosed the truck where it stopped, the bay and the parts can be ready before it arrives.
Air brakes, aftertreatment and engines for Moon Lake rigs
The heavy side of our shop handles engine overhauls and in-frame work, injectors and turbochargers, DPF, DEF and EGR faults, cooling systems and electrical diagnosis. Air brake work runs from compressors and dryers to valves, chambers, slack adjusters, drums and linings; our post on semi truck brake repair walks through the warning signs. Kenworth, Mack and Western Star trucks are as familiar here as Freightliner, Peterbilt, Volvo and International, with Detroit, Cummins, Caterpillar and Volvo engines, and RDI Power is Caterpillar certified.
Every heavy unit gets a digital inspection, so you see the brakes, tires, leaks and suspension in photos rather than taking a line on an invoice on faith. Labor is warranted for 3 years / 36,000 miles, or 2 years / 24,000 miles on an RDI Fleet account, and fleet accounts add 24/7 roadside help. More on heavy-duty service is on our semi and heavy-duty truck repair page, and trucks working Ridge Road just south can see our River Ridge semi truck repair page.
